Do you like to eat intestines? This is the go to place for some of the best mouthwatering tasty intestines you will ever find! They specialize in intestines and offer 4 different types: small, large, abomasum and tripe. They do have other cuts of meats as well and they are all very tasteful. But if you love intestines this is the usual go to. Besides bbq they do offer other selection of food: tofu soups, rice dishes, jjajjamyun, and appetizersThey are not AYCE. They have different order option and the quality and quantity is very great so!Plz do keep in mind the meat quality is that greater than any AYCE which is why price is a little on the higher end but very well worth it.Every bbq order comes with corn cheese, kimchi stew, side dishes and salad. They do offer a great selection of dipping sauces for your meat don't be afraid to ask. I recommend vinegar on the side for your intestines.Service is always great and fast. They come around and moved around and cook the meat for you which is nice.

Honestly the best Korean BBQ thus far in my list. The place is warm full with many good options to try. I would personally recommend trying their Rice Cake soup, perfect for rainy weather or when you are feeling like you want something warm yet fulfilling. Their portions are pretty big and best enjoyable with friends and family. Employees are very welcoming and happy to have you in their establishment. However, parking space around the area is hard to find so do come prepare for long waiting times in finding a space to park.

As you enter the establishment, their is no one to greet you or help you. You add yourself to the waiting list via tablet stationed just inside the front door. It was quite busy, and the patrons looked happy. The wait time was 40 to 80 minutes. We decided the wait time was too long and sought out other establishments. A few minutes later, we received a text that our table was ready. We hurried over, but to our disappointment, our table was not ready. The female at the register said the table needed to be cleaned. Once that was done, she went ahead and seated another couple. We approached her as to why she gave away the table that was promised to us. She dismissively said they had been waiting before us and walked away. Poorly organized and unapologetic about it. We decided to take our business elsewhere.

The food and service here was great. Came here ordered the 3 meat combo and they brought out so much food that they made it worth the price. I came here specifically for Makchang and it didn't disappoint. Hope I can get to go back again.

Forgot to take pictures... but this place is a really solid KBBQ spot! I wasn't sure about the prices at first, since the combos seemed expensive. However, the meat quality, especially of the beef is really really good. We were a group of 9, so we ordered 2 Large 5 combos and it was definitely more than enough food. The menu says that combo only feeds 3-4 people but I think it definitely can feed 5 people. The beef was the star of the show, the meat was really fresh and the marinated beef was really good as well. I think the pork was alright, not the best I've had.Their banchan is also good quality and they refill it whenever you ask. One complaint I have is that this place gets really stuffy and hot, so I would hope they add more ventilation. You also walk out of there smelling really strongly of the KBBQ because of the lack of ventilation. However, overall had a really good experience and the food was top notch!

This is a great little restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious. Quick service as well. Our server was super nice and friendly. She answered all our questions. The only downside is the parking situation but that's how it goes in Kearny. You have to wait until someone decides to leave.

Songhak is my go to when I have friends or family visiting. Convoy is notorious for having the best places to eat, Songhak is a definite MUST! Parking her is shitty. But it Convoy there is never enough parking in these plazas. The lot Is super small and shares with 3-4 other businesses. The food here is always on point, the marinate is delicious! You can taste the quality. The service is always pretty fast and super attentive. Usually we always get grandma waiting on us and she is always super fast. I usually always order Cambo 3 which comes with four meats, steamed egg, corn cheese and soup ( soybean or kimchi) and of course a much of sides. If you love intestines you will love it ! We usually always order intestines pre-cooked and when brought to our table we crisp it . The best part Is, you can request the meats to be stir fried into fried rice! This is a great place to meet family and friends. prices aren't too bad, super affordable for group settings. Their Wagu beef is also a must try if you visit . Give them a try if you're in the area.

I'm not a big AYCE fan - the quality of the meats tends to be hit-or-miss. SongHak is not AYCE; they offer a somewhat smaller menu with a focus on quality proteins. The banchan was excellent; the bean sprouts in particular. Our server was very attentive and inquired re: refills of the banchan throughout the meal (yes, please!). Kimchi was okay - not spicy or unctuous enough for my taste, but that was the only let-down during the meal. We enjoyed the galbi (bone-in), beef tongue and pork jowl in particular. You can grill your meats yourself, or the servers will assist. The chive pancake was terrific; I would definitely recommend ordering it or one of the other pancake options. They are light on batter, and have a lovely crispness at the edges. Our younger family members loved the corn cheese as well.

Among the foods I ordered, other than cold noodles, I couldn't rate the taste as good. The marbled jjamppong had a strong smell of flour, the kimchi pancakes I ordered were too small for the price, and they were so burnt that they had a burnt smell, and the steamed dumplings were stuck to the paper underneath and had to be peeled off . Because it is inconvenient to serve, the dumpling skin and dumpling filling are picked out separately, so you end up eating them separately without being able to taste the juice of the dumplings. The service was very friendly and the atmosphere seemed good.Among the foods I ordered, other than cold noodles, I couldn't rate the taste as good. Songhak BBQ (B- or 3.5 star) : KBBQ restaurant (non-AYCE) with very fresh meats and a broader selection of food choices than most KBBQ restaurants, but flavors seemed tame and won't be added to my "revisit" list. For my daughter's Christmas break back home, she requested two meal types: hotpot, and Korean BBQ. And today, we checked off the second box.I'm not super familiar with Korean food, but based on previous experience, places that don't offer AYCE typically give higher quality meat. Given I'm not looking to gorge myself with meat, I specifically looked for restaurants that offer a la carte BBQ and serve other dishes as well. I ended up selecting Songhak as it was one of the highest rated non-AYCE spots, and the online wait list that put me in line before driving cemented the decision.I was lucky today, finding a parking spot was relatively easy. The restaurant itself is pretty standard, nothing fancy. Floors were slippery so you know it's authentically Asian. Service was rather spotty. I rarely expect great service in Asian restaurants, but forgetting basic items like eating and cooking utensils multiple times, and having to ask for warm water three times before we got it was even weaker than my realistic expectations. But that's okay, been to much worse in Asia - at least no fingers in our waters Dolsot Bibimbop with spicy pork (B- ) : Bowl was nicely super hot, giving the rice some char, and vegetables and pork were plentiful, but felt weak on all the key flavors, lacking heat, savoriness & sweetness. And the pork didn't have any char on it. All the ingredients tasted fresh, and adding a touch of the sweet soy definitely helped, but as my favorite Korean dish, it didn't meet up to my expectations. Soontofu with beef brisket (C+ ) : Heat and nothing else - kind of strange. I'm used to a more acidic flavor mixed with the heat, a little along the lines of a tomyum soup, but not this time. The bowl looked scrumptious and all the ingredients tasted fresh, but why so bland? Prime combo 1: Beef brisket, wagyu beef belly, pork jowl (B ) : Definitely the highlight of the meal. Everything tasted very fresh. The pork jowl was scrumptious, super juicy and nicely complemented with a little salt & sweet soy. The beauty of fatty beef, you can cook it to your heart's content with lots of crunchy char, yet still tastes rich and juicy, and you know your arteries are clogging up but hey, you only live once.Songhak is the 5th Korean restaurant I've visited in SD over 2.5 years - the others being Woomiok, K-Cuisine, Olleh BBQ, and Kangnam BBQ - but since I rarely crave Korean food, I think I'll wait for my travels to Canada or Asia before tackling Korean restaurants again. That is, unless one of my two bosses mandates we go again while in SD.-------------------------------------------Food Grading Scale:A+: Life changing. You remember these bites for the rest of your life. Occurs very infrequently and when it does, you'll know it. You don't even know how to further improve it with a magic wand.A: Wow! Excellent. You felt happy biting into it. You're considering whether it's life changing, but know it misses the mark. A-: Very very good. Whatever it is, it's one of the best, but you can think of further improvements.B+: Very good. Very enjoyable, not to the point of "impressive," but worth revisiting. B: Good. A solid example of whatever it is, offering enjoyment, but not enough for making an effort to get.B-: Not bad. If in a pinch to eat something, this offers some enjoyment and is a reasonable option.C+: Mediocre plus. Pretty average, but with one or two positive characteristics you can identify. C: Mediocre. "Meh". Very average. Not bad enough to make you angry, but nothing good about it at all. C-: Bad. You recognize it for what it is, but a very bad rendition. Your foodie self is a little pissed, and feeling like a dummy you ordered it. D: Awful. Whoever cooked it should be ashamed of themself. Somehow, y

SongHak Korean BBQ is different from other KBBQ spots in the area as their food is not AYCE, but their improved quality of food is definitely noticeable!- PARKING -The parking lot here is almost always full, so unless you get lucky as someone is leaving, try to look for spots on the street!- SERVICE/ENVIRONMENT -When we came, it was around 1pm on a Saturday and it wasn't too busy. There seemed to only be two workers at this time, but both of them are very quick and attentive to all customers! There are a good amount of tables, some with grills and some without. The servers come help cook your KBBQ, which is definitely nice because you don't need to worry about it!- FOOD -Combo #3 ($89.00): This had 4 different kinds of meat which we thought would be a great amount of variety to eat! We had 4 people and this said it serves 2-3, but since we also ordered other items on the side, this was a perfect amount. The combos come with Steamed Egg, Corn Cheese, and either soybean or kimchi stew. Our favorite meat was definitely the Wagyu Beef Belly!!! We would come back just for that!Jjajangmyeon ($13.99): I really don't see this dish anywhere besides the food courts at the local Korean markets, so I immediately wanted to order this! Great portion size, and the flavor is delicious. Noodles are cooked perfectly too!Kimchi Pancake ($8.99): This pancake is secretly quite spicy! They include jalapeños in this pancake and if you get a bite with a jalapeno in it, it can be pretty hot! It was a great flavor and had the most kimchi inside a pancake that I've come across.- OVERALL -A great spot if you don't want AYCE KBBQ, but are craving some delicious meats. Try out their Wagyu Beef Belly for sure! I would come back to try out more of their menu offerings!
