A little Jamaican themed sushi spot never hurt someone! We stopped in and we're quickly seated at the sushi bar. The place was pretty busy for a week night. The rolls were good. I'll definitely be back.

I’ve been a Sushi Diner fan ever since the days of only location next to Mesa college. Then Sushi Diner 1 closed and only Sushi Diner 2 remained. Then Sushi Diner 2 owner retired and it has been sold to Tappi Sushi.
I was worried the menu has changed or quality has gone down from the limited new reviews, but was happy to find out that it’s still the same old Sushi Diner menu with a few new additions.
I love the daily lunch special meal set which is a great deal. The Kalbi bbq ribs was actually BETTER than previously. Previously they were also really small pieces and burnt black, but under new management were cooked perfectly. The endless summer roll was also better than before.
Service on Saturday was quick and courteous. Bob Marley decor is still up with Bob Marley music playing.

I heard great things about this spot from family and friends, so my hopes were high. We left utterly disappointed. Let's start with the line outside. When we arrived, there was a family already waiting outside. Mind you, there's no sign in sheet. As we waited for about 15 mins, one server stepped out noticed us and the other family, then put out at sign in sheet. Other couples started to come and sign in. There was plenty of couples tables available. Another server seen this and started to offer sitting for couples as well as us, since it was only my wife, my 1 year old son and myself. We sat and were given menus. Then we waited for about 20 mins till a server came to take the drink order, we figured let's save some time and just order everything. It took another 20 mins for just the miso soup to arrive, but no drinks yet. Around 5-7 mins after the miso arrived finally our drinks (water and a lemonade).
The our server (Muah *I apologize if I misspelled it*) never checked in on us, we felt completely ignored. Finally when the food came. My Beef teriyaki plate was cold, the warmest thing on the plate was potato salad. My rice, beef and fries all cold.
This place just a complete disappointment all around. Service, food and atmosphere. Even the tiki decor is disgusting and dirty with dust bunnies hanging on to the decor around the bar just waiting to fall into your food or drinks.
Small inside but fun little atmosphere! Food is pretty quick and friendly staff!
Been eating here for years. Noticed that ever since new ownership took over, the sushi rolls are noticiably smaller while prices stayed the same. What made this place stand out in the past was that it had the best overall value - generous, tasty, fresh portions for a fair price. May have to look for a new sushi spot that doesn't rip off customers

What a great find!
We stopped here cuz we were craving sushi but were absolutely famished. You’d probably be a little dissuaded by look of the restaurant but holy moly the food was delicious. Lot’s of interesting and different rolls and they were all fantastic.
A great restaurant to come vibe, have a beer and try some sushi out of the norm!
Very small place but worth the wait time. Sushi is always great here and they have a big menu with lots of other options like entrees and bentos. Can’t go wrong here with anything you order it’s all good. Sushi hits every time!
I have been eating at Sushi Diner for 15 years. This is hands down the best sushi in San Diego. Surf videos, Reggae music to add to the chill, relaxing atmosphere. Can't get any better than Sushi Diner. Try the Smokin' Jamaican (smoked salmon&cream cheese) and Hang Loose Roll (has bacon!) youll be hooked!
