Sushi Ota Reviews
I called Sushi Ota to make a reservation and informed them I would have a service animal in training. The staff member stated I must present a certificate to be served. I explained that requiring a certificate is illegal under the ADA and California law. They refused to complete my reservation without it. This phone-based denial is a violation of the Unruh Civil Rights Act, as they are creating a discriminatory barrier to a public accommodation.

Sushi Ota is a hidden gem that serves premium and fresh ingredients in every dish, offering delicious options like the basic spicy tuna roll and various specials. The cozy space has a Japanese vibe with wood features, creating a nice atmosphere. While parking is limited on-site, street parking is also available. Customers often praise the fish, particularly the black pepper scallop sushi, and consider it one of the best sushi places in town. The restaurant has been a staple for decades, training many top sushi chefs and providing a great experience for those returning from Japan. The chef, Kaz, is highly skilled, ensuring quality dishes every time. Recent reviews highlight that the chef’s nigiri and scallop roll are exceptional, with the sashimi melting in the mouth and the food served with care and passion. Visitors appreciate the attentive service, though some have noted that the staff can be overextended during busy times. Despite this, the overall experience is often described as refined and intimate, making each visit feel special. Reservations are recommended due to the busy nature of the restaurant, and even wait times are worth it.
