We love this place. Such wonderful food, service and reasonable prices. The staff is welcoming and charming. We went two nights in a row for dinner. If we lived in San Diego we would definitely be regulars.
The menu was a little lacking, basically just appetizers and tacos. Limited entree selection. 2 of us did the tasting menu but didn't enjoy all of it. Large Mezcal selection if you're into that.
Way too hot in place. Invest in some AC or at minimum some ceiling fans. Food good buttoigh to enjoy when too hit in space.
We've been here a few times already and can't get enough. Drinks are delicious (y bien reportados), the tapas, although small are flavorful and filling.
Amazing experience! Simply amazing food, drinks, service and ambience. 10/10. Highly recommended.

I want to love Tahona, but the food was horrible. I don't think it was always like this. I remember being impressed with the food when it first opened. This week, the tacos and empanadas were gummy, pooled in oil, and flavorless. The fish dishes were the most disgusting of all. The drinks were good, but the staff seemed exhausted. It wasn't a fun energetic vibe. We were given special access to the speakeasy without a prior reservation; that was nice. The drinks in the speakeasy were excellent, but the place had a haphazard feel to it; it was not tightly controlled like other speakeasies. That made it feel less cool. I love the location, I love the concept, the design is strong. I'm so sad the food and operations are driving down my experience here.
Very nice specialty cocktails here....great tequila and mezcal selections....servers are attentive and friendly. Need to try the food here at some point.

I have to compliment the Bar manager and GM who were working hard for us on a random monday night. Both were attentive and so pleasant :) Ive been to Tahona twice now and their birra taco is still my favorite. Also loved their speakeasy experience - excellent and unique cocktails!
Beautiful quaint romantic setting. Service was great with explanations of each dish. Recommend the squash blossoms appetizer.
We have been to Tahona multiple times a while back and loved it - food, drinks, atmosphere. This time was totally different. We had the MOST rude waitress I've maybe ever had. She knew nothing about the drink menu and acted completely inconvenience with any questions we had. She made the whole experience so unpleasant and uncomfortable as if we were cramping her style just by being there. The drink and food menu was more limited than I recall, but. mostly the quality of the food was just poor. Overall a total shame...i really loved this place before, the service and the quality of the food totally went downhill. Major bummer.

The restaurant doesn't look even remotely close to the pictures. The food was mideocroe if it was not worse. The waitress was not friendly so I wouldn't go back to this restaurant.
An amazing new addition to our community! Delicious drinks and knowledgeable staff. Looking forward to returning for their events and tasings.

I lived in Mexico City for 40 years so I'm very picky about Mexican food. Chef Villareal really knocks it out of the park taking classic Mexican recipes and adding a creative twist on them . Whether it's the broth or type of kernels he uses for the pozole, the huitlacoche mixed with the risotto for the steak huarache or the cauliflower with mole taco, you are in for a banquet of the senses! My favorite Mexican restaurant by far !
If you're in Old Town San Diego, you have to check out Tahona! From the moment we walked in, the service was fantastic—our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and really made us feel at home.
Now, let's talk about the food. It was amazing! Each dish was bursting with flavor, and those house-made tortillas were a game changer. Everything was crafted with care, and you can tell the chef really knows their stuff.
And if you're a fan of spirits, you're in for a treat! Tahona boasts the largest stock of mezcal and tequila, making it a haven for enthusiasts. The vibe of the place is also great—cozy and welcoming, with a nod to the area’s history. Overall, Tahona is a culinary gem that I can't recommend enough. We are already looking forward to my next visit!
