Excellent boba! We were very satisfied with our drinks!
Brulee Thai tea Cream boba is delicious
This place is like the Starbucks of mile tea - you order less ice but they give you half cup of ice for free!

This boba shop is inside a plaza that is very busy. They are currently making a new restaurant on the corner, so it'll be even busier. The good thing is there is free street parking nearby. The inside is very clean and smells like boba.
A couple days ago I made a trip to five different boba shops on Convoy to rank their "boba milk tea". I tried to get the closest to black tea if they had more than one option. I chose 100% sweetness and no ice (to eliminate dilution). Here are my ratings:
1 Camellia: boba milk tea, regular milk $6.35
2 Chakaa: ruby milk tea w brown sugar boba, regular milk $5.75
3 Tan-Cha: celon milk tea w caramel boba, non-dairy milk $7.25
4 Yun Tea House: Monkey King w boba, lactose-free house milk $7.28
5 Dayung: boba milk tea, non-dairy creamer $5.88
[Caveat: I think Dayung made a mistake on the order because it had some ice in the drink when I picked it up. When I tasted it at home, it tasted watered down and completely bland, like there was no sugar. So I think instead of 100% sugar and 0% ice, they gave me 0% sugar and 100% ice.]
In terms of the actual boba balls, Tan-Cha had the worst boba. This experiment involved a blind taste test, so I didn't know it was from Tan-Cha. Tan-Cha's was the first of five that I tried, and the boba was MUSHY! I was so shocked that a boba shop could have such terrible boba. It was also inconsistent. Instead of balls, I was drinking pieces of mushy boba, as if the boba balls got cut up. I distinctly remember one of the pieces having texture like a thin slice of grass jelly. I put the leftover drink in the fridge for a couple of hours, and the boba hardened and became chewier. But that's not how I want to enjoy my boba drinks.
I have to conclude that Tan-Cha's drinks are good but not the boba. Don't order boba topping here. It was also one of the more expensive drinks at $7.25 for a boba milk tea.

This place is a gem. I'm asian american and have been drinking boba all my life. I am very picky.
Hands down, this Tan-Cha is the best boba shop in San Diego and one of the best in all of California. I haven't had a bad drink here yet. Their whole menu just slaps that hard. They use real fruit for their drinks here. 50% sweet is the perfect sweetness imo
I hope they implement a rewards program soon because I probably purchased enough from them to earn like at least 10 free drinks lmao
If you like grape, get the grape cheezo. If you like peaches and it is in season, get the peach cheezo.
If you like strawberry, get the strawberry creamio or smoothie
For a safe option, get the milk tea creamio

Great boba tea spot in SD!
Popped in while waiting on food from bonchon and ordered a high mountain green tea. It was good. The price is reasonable and it was made very quickly. I would stop in again

I had a very bad shopping experience at this store today!! U opened a tea spot in a Chinese community and expect all your customers speak English. The funny part is the girl work there got really thick Chinese accents and she asked me if I can speak English even though I started the conversation in Chinese. Don’t know why she feels so embarrassed for being a Chinese. Will never go there again!

The food was great, but the male server with tattoos was very very mean, seems to be the manager of the store or something, he seems very angry whenever people order pancakes and smash drinks on the counter….don’t know why….

Uji green milk tea w tiramisu 👍
Only 3 small tables inside & has the worst parking lot situation Convoy 😂
Uji green milk tea w tiramisu ?Only 3 small tables inside & has the worst parking lot situation Convoy ?
I was so excited when I heard about this place and really wanted to like it because the menu reminded me a little of Omomo in Irvine. Sadly the drinks I tried were just meh.Tea flavors are weak and diluted, and the drinks unadjusted are a little bland (needs more sweetness). Boba was soft, but also lacking flavor.Drinks:Uji matcha with cheese foam - tasted like any other matcha milk tea. Nothing like Omomo's amazing Uji matcha.Brûlée green milk tea with Oreo - it was okay. The consistency of the floating Oreo cream chunks was odd. Also can't compare to Omomo's.Props for packaging and presentation though. The cup shape is kind of cute, really liked the lid design, and the mini shovels.I would NOT recommend this boba shop to my friends.

Tan-Cha is one of our go-to spots in Convoy when the craving for boba hits. My usual go-to drinks are the Roasted Oolong Milk Tea or Matcha Drinks. The establishment itself is small, but it carries a cozy atmosphere with a few tables to accommodate smaller groups. The team is modest in size, doing their best to serve customers, but during busy periods, there might be a wait time.Having visited Tan-Cha multiple times, I've occasionally encountered longer wait times for the boba to be prepared. On some occasions, they've run out in the afternoon and couldn't make a new batch. Despite these hiccups, the team seems committed to providing a satisfying boba experience.
