cute little sake bar tucked away in a neighborhood. patio is dog friendly and has heaters. service is great. sake selection is expansive. only knocking it down a star for the food. it’s pricey- $15 for vegetable tempura is a little ridiculous. the spicy scallop roll was bland.

Very expensive and portions are small. The special was $15.00 for 4 pieces of Mackeral! Very little. We ordered two rolls, the first one came with the special plate we ordered , the second one took more than 20 min to arrive after we finished eating. Very poor experience .

Service was fine, felt a little rushed, sushi honestly was so bland and not even properly made… some of the worst sushi I’ve had in San Diego… spend money elsewhere

Very pricey meal for the portion sizes. Had high hopes for the food here but was disappointed. Nothing had a wow factor. Service was good and parking is easy since they have a lot. Small indoor seating area, mostly tables outside.
This place is amazing every time!

Tanuki is easily one of my favorite spots in San Diego! Every time I visit it’s been a wonderful experience from start to finish. Everything I’ve tried in the menu has been delicious, and you can tell the care that goes into every dish. The staff is always warm, welcoming, and attentive which just adds to the experience. Parking can be a little tricky but trust me, it’s worth it. Highly recommend!

The fish was not terrible but certainly the worst I’ve had in San Diego. Charged for rice, with an up charge for sushi rice (!) and charged for salad. Overall very poor value. Worst presentation I’ve seen at a sushi restaurant (and probably the worst meal I’ve ever had at a Japanese restaurant). Avoid.

Fair at best. Everything is ala cart. For sashimi they gave us a pile of thick pieces on a plate. No presentation at all. Charged us $10 for two tiny bowls of sushi rice. Charged for salad. No miso soup. Gave us one set up of ginger and wasabi when there were two people The fish was just ok. Tasted/texture was mealy not good.$80 and we left hungry. Would not go back.

Great local sushi and sake spot
The service was good. Staff were attentive and great. Food came out fast. But food was meh. I was expecting a little bit big for the crèmes brule.

The food was incredible, the service was amazing, and they have one of the largest Sake selections I’ve seen at a local restaurant.
Great sushi but such small portions for the amount you pay for. Trust, the photos are enlarged
This is a great place the plates are empty because there was no time to take pictures because the food is too good.
Great food, and great Japanese family that runs it. The Jalapeño Tuna Roll and Crispy Rice are very good. Servers are excellent. Easy parking
My family and I decided to try this new sushi place and we absolutely loved it! The service was so great and accommodating. We ordered the miso, edamame, miso, and crispy rice. All so great to start with and for entrees we ordered the hamachi jalapeño roll and we loved it so much and our waitress gave us a complimentary hamachi hand roll and crème brûlées to take home how sweet (: definitely will come back and recommend friends and family
