Drove to Tapioca Express in UTC San Diego tonight March 23rd at 9:15pm (15 minutes before they close) but the two employees at the front said the kitchen is already closed. I reiterated that their Google and Yelp profiles say that they close in 15 minutes but they didn’t care. Seems like they were tired and wanted to go home early. Hopefully this review will help encourage them to keep their doors open until their allotted closing hour. ❤️
Though the food and drink may be alright, I can’t recommend this location. The floors, walls, tables, and chairs are FILTHY with dirt and grime from years and years of customers and this entire restaurant needs a deep-clean. I would honestly be kind of ashamed if I owned this place in the state that it’s in. The lighting is also very dark, and there wasn’t any music playing. I can’t say the staff was very friendly, but not unfriendly either. Judging by the state of the restaurant, I can only make assumptions about the state of the kitchen and what we don’t see.
Employees are ADD and aren’t trained on calories/drink. They forget to ask sugar levels by default. Calorie list is outdated. Not good service for people on a diet!
My cappuccino is 100 degrees (212 F), I burned my mouth. There is no foam at all. It's just overboiled milk, it's terrible.
If you don't know how to make cappuccino, then remove it from your menu.
Food was good and the spot was really convenient too, the boba was pretty decent and the snow bubbles tastes just like an icey in a good way! The atmosphere was alright it could definitely have some work done but the cashiers were super nice although it did take I little bit to get the boba

They have a happy hour milk tea special that we took advantage of. They also had a special on their crispy chicken for $3.
The milk teas were a little on the sweet side but the boba was good. The crispy chicken was ordered with a medium spicy level and it was delicious! Whatever flavoring that they sprinkled on the fried chicken was so good!

Crispy chicken combo meal mild spice with a Jasmine green tea boba with light ice. I also love the passion fruit green tea. The staff is friendly and the food hits the spot. Tons of parking. Enjoy!
