a bit noisy and crowded at rush hour but i love the food and the wide range of ingredients to choose from. The original soup-based or tomatoes soup-based is the one to go. Either way, you should only choose medium spicy to avoid killing yourself :D. Ah, there's also fried skewers for people who are not afraid of oily dishes.

This is totally not a Taiwan style way, instead, it's a China way. Do not mix it. Kind of worry about the China Food-tech cause the food they served whether the looks before or after boiling, tastes kind of weird. Despite those process food, probably choose whole foods would be better but vegetables seems not very fresh tho... Anyway I won't go for dining again.

Except for vegetables, almost all the dishes are frozen and are cheap food. Take a look at their spicy hotpot dishes.

You build your own bowl of soup with a bunch of items to chose, billed by weight. You can also get kabobs which are actually very cheaply priced and taste amazing. We actually ended up spending 60 bucks for 2 of us but it definitely doesn't have to be that much. Very tasty food. Often crowded. First get your items then pay at the register.

Not sure why this place has so much good reviews.. Hen, maybe it is cheap. Walked in and they gave me a basket said to picked out whatever you want at the condiments and topping bars 1lbs is $13.99. So I did and also picked out the broth. About 10 mins later they brought out the hot pot bowl, which was huge and overwhelm. I picked out the Tom Yum broth which was pretty sweet and not good at all. Won’t be coming back. Rather go to Tasty pot across the street instead maybe double the price but hot pot is so much better, vegetable doesn’t get over cooked like at this restaurant.

Average... The flavor isn't that intense so you have to overcompensate with the dressings.

It’s solid overall but they don’t do dry pot the right/“real” way…I was so disappointed. If you want soup it’s great, if you want dry pot they just cook it soup style and drain the soup out (except inevitably they will leave some in).
Very good pricing though, I’d come back if I wanted soup but not dry pot.

The food is average. They had so many desks that the passage was crowded. They were not busy when I arrived, and several staff members in the lobby were idle, not asking if I needed more water, or providing any service or even interaction, like a cafeteria, and the tip line of the final bill was prominent.

First time trying out this restaurant when we were in San Diego because we saw a long line waiting for tables. We ordered the $13.99/lb and pick your own meats, veggies, noodles, and much more. My bowl was 1.95 lbs, hubby's was 2.01 lbs, and our adult son's was 2.23 lbs. My tom gum yum soup base was excellent and so was the original beef bone soup. All the meats were frozen so it weighs heavy and after they cook it or you, it has shrunk quite a bit. I chose lamb, beef, squid, octopus, fish, prawns, tripe, intestines, chinese spinach, tang ho, vermicelli, pork belly, and much more.
We enjoyed our meal but not too cheap. Average for us was $28 USD for a bowl at 2 lbs. Will return for sure.

skewers >>> hotpot.
broth is hit or miss. since your bowl of food is cooked together, the slices of frozen meat end up overcooked.
very affordable for the amount. the ordering process is not intuitive:
1. get seated, remember your table number
2. grab a bowl of raw ingredients , minimum 1 lb, $13.99/lb
3. select skewers, minimum of 5 skewers
4. go to front counter, tell them table number, select soup base and spice level
5. get a wristband with number and food will be delivered
6. make your own sauce
7. pay at the end

This Yin Tang location in Mira Mesa is in the H Mart plaza on the Meet Fresh and Daiso side. There is plenty of parking as it's a big parking lot. This location is popular, so there may be a wait list.
How it works is you get a big bowl and tongs - fill it with whatever ingredients you want. Then you bring it back to the cashier to get it weighed - you pay $13.99 per pound (without soup). Remember to tell them your table number. You then choose your soup base, and they will give you a number on a bracelet to bring back to your table. When the soup is ready, your bowl will be brought to your table. Napkins, water, and chopsticks are self-serve by the entrance.
This location also has some yummy skewers, which are in a separate fridge section. The minimum is five skewers per order. You can choose spice level as well.
While the soup is good and mild is actually spicy, the ingredients in terms of meat are lacking. I only saw lamb or beef (and fish), but I was hoping for different kinds of beef. Their lamb and beef slices were very fatty. They had several noodle choices and even had lotus root. Another plus is if you got too much food, they will give you containers to take the leftovers home.
