Outstanding and not "fusion". Mostly. Almost everything tastes just like you were back in Japan's izakayas, down to the cucumbers. The pork belly, chicken thigh w/ negi, boneless wing, short ribs were my favorite. Each kushiyaki was juicy, tender, bursting with flavor - even the tiny wedges of lemon had more juice than a half lemon. Speaking of lemon, they make the lemon sours by hand instead of only offering canned chuhais. AND they have Asahi super dry draft! AND get the desserts - the deep fried cheesecake was wonderful.
Service is either really good, or just... disappointing. It depends on who's working that night whether we have a blast or regret going.

A new different special menu and skewers every week. Banger every week. The regular menu also got some great variety of quality japanese food and skewers. Highly recommend going here.

Hands down best Izakaya in the City. Super authentic and incredibly tasting everything from the Yakitori skewers to the dessert of deep fried cheesecake it was super bomb. We made a reservation because we’d tried to walk in twice before and got turned away. It was totally worth the wait. Can’t wait to go back. Keiko was really nice too.

Joined wait-list and gave phone number, waited 40 minutes and was never called. Came back and they had removed us from the wait-list and asked us to wait again for another 30+ minutes.

Things happen, but they were very nonchalant about it and not at all apologetic.

Frustrating service.

Everything was amazing except for the dessert, which was below average. Beers were delicious, some nice draft Asahi. They were out of a few meats, unfortunately. The omakase skewers were a nice range of flavors. The grilled meat was delicious, but the dessert pie tasted mostly of oil and the ice cream didn't have much flavor. I'd go again, but probably skip the dessert.

Rating this place a 1/5 due to their bad hospitality.

Walk ins are not welcome; you must call to make a reservation. I called the number as listed on their website, which was answered by someone with a meek voice. I asked to make a reservation, and they inquired for which day. I asked to make a reservation for that same night. Then, which I thought was odd, I was put on hold “to check.”

I thought that was weird, if a host’s job is to take reservations, surely they must know. I was standing outside the restaurant and I could see tables available. The hold lasted about a minute, to be answered by the same person but with a completely different tone.

In a haughty tone, they said “I was calling too last minute for a reservation for tonight” yet offered to make arrangements for a different day. It was as if the host enjoyed declining business from a patron. I declined to make reservations for any future date.

Despite being turned out, I am happy I did not experience supporting an establishment that falsely creates its prestige due to gatekeeping.

This has become a silly trend in the restaurant industry. I could not possibly imagine being a business owner and choosing to turn customers away.
