Very good food, not excellent. My major gripe was that items were pricey for what you get. Plus, the mandatory 25 percent extra service charge was crazy. Felt more like a 175 dollar dinner( with two drinks each.), not 300 bucks for two people. The Staff were amazing: very attentive and accommodating. Food came out at a reasonable time frame.

We were very disappointed to learn that this restaurant used to be a steakhouse and no longer is. The problem is that they are still using their old name to draw in clientele. A flawed tactic because people are going to find out. The food on offer was good though very expensive. But the practice of using the 5A5 name when even the sales receipt has the name of a different restaurant is deceptive. There is no signage outside with the 5A5 name, there is an "M" on the door. Their new name is Modernist Club. The public should know where it is they are actually going to.

The advertising on this restaurant was extremely false After ordering and being seated, we were told that the restaurant had change locations. Also change chefs also changed menus. The food quality was extremely high, and we ended up ordering almost everything off the menu as I am a very strict critique The chef was very well in terms of providing quality item However, the ambience of the location was extremely hidden, which made it very hard to find, and the vibe was not what I had reserved After a $450 bill, I'm a bit disappointed that there's only two A5 Wagyu items available on this menu if the name of the restaurant had been different and it was advertised correctly, I personally would have not reserved this place. However, the food quality was extremely exceptional.

Good restaurant that needs more exposure. Chef is doing an excellent job and food was great.

Entertaining some guests from out of town, they remarked how this was the best meal they had in sf. Wagyu skewers, beef noodle soup, hamachi (best value!), and the a5 dumpling was our favorite.

Food was outstanding, service was relaxed but good. Their beef noodle soup, wagyu, and uni were the highlights, but everything else we tried was excellent too. There was an event taking place that evening. Made it a bit livelier but didn't interfere with our dinner.

waited for 15 minutes in an empty restaurant and other than water no-one showed up. Food choices seemed very limited. waited 10 more minutes and walked out. No apologies, no words of how can we do better. I understand these are tough times, but having a restaurant in an expensive neighborhood, least you can do is have some service

There's no sign outside so you have to look for the restaurant. The food was fantastic but the ambiance is weird. It didn't feel like a restaurant. It felt like just a bar. It feels mediocre for the price but I'd say food was great...

There are so many places in San Francisco to spend too much money for okay food. This is not that. This is a thoughtful omakase menu by a wonderful chef who has poured her soul into each dish. A mix of uniqueness, fantastic taste, and love. We felt so privileged to get to experience this—on our list, it will be one of those few places that we discovered before everyone else did. We will be back, and will be telling our friends!

Had chef's omakase tasting menu - our entire group loved it! Beautiful presentation and quite filling. Momo toast, Chawanmushi, A5 Wagyu were some of our favorites. Cocktails were creative and delicious.

The food and Japanese whiskey flights were incredible. The service was outstanding. It was perfect for our birthday celebration. Highly recommend. It's a small menu and each dish was outstanding.

I looked for a unique dining experience to entertain business guests in SF this week and I found a gem with 5A5!!! I let the excellent Cheif Cat select and have us served family style and WHAT A CULINARY TREAT!!! From Starters to Entrees, nothing disappointed. Her last Entree was the Beef and Noodles, which all of us raved about - really an exceptional dish. If you want to skip the traditional Steak Houses of SF for a unique culinary experience, it's 5A5!!

Intimate but fun, lively setting with a mix of diners and happy hour guests. Short rib beef noodle soup was delish, a5 wagyu skewers were a fav too. Chicken wings/wangs were a bit messy but great crunch/texture. Reasonably priced for the quality
