It is always a great experience dining here. The food is great, our waiter was Ethan this time and he is always engaging, fun and alert. He got us to our show/concert on time. We are so grateful to have this place to dine.
Our Server Emma C was excellent. She was attentive and aware that we had symphony tickets. Food as always was wonderful and portions are big enough to share for light diners. It's our “go to” restaurant for SF Symphony, Ballet and Opera!
Great restaurant. Old school and excelent vibes. The menu is just right and the wine list is extense.
One of the best dining experiences we have had in years. I a pasta dish and my husband the sole. Absolutely excellent and exceptional food. Service was perfectly paced, not rushed or dragging, but just right to make our performance. The mock cocktail and the my husband's Manhattan were wonderful. Make sure to have reservations especially on the weekend, the place was packed.
As always, Absinthe provided a wonderful dining experience. Great atmosphere, great food, great service!
I ate at the Sunday brunch. They were out of quiche at 12:30. Service was slow with the waiter rarely around. The waiter was surprised when I hadn't received my dessert. Food was okay, nothing to write home about especially for the price. Presentation was nice. Brunch Menu on Open Table did not reflect the actual menu--especially the desert menu.
The food was amazing. Gnocchi was both super light and crispy with a delicious sauce. The tartare was one of the best I have ever had. Love the potato “chips” that came with it. Our server was delightful and had a great sense of humor.
Lively, bustling, but also cozy. Beyond the bar is a quieter area, carpeted, upholstered banquette along the wall. We sat there. Excellent server. Sole meuniere was perfectly prepared, so much butter! The onion soup was a cut above - savory, dark, and rich. Their basic house salad was the perfect balance for all the richness in the rest of the menu. Fabulous little apple strudel.
We had Sunday Bruch before an afternoon performance at the nearby Jazz Center. Less crowded and very relaxed compared to dinner which is poplar. Our waiter was outstanding - a real SF pro. My wife commented today on how she thought the salads were the best in town.
We have been dining at Absinthe for decades now, and every single meal has been a delight. The same goes for the service, the ambiance, the libations, and the vibes. I depart each time with a smile, already looking forward to our next visit.

The baguette sandwich was not good -- couldn't taste any duck and was way over dressed, in fact all you could taste was the dressing. Lyonnaise salad was poorly presented, looked like a blob on top of a bed of lettuce. Fries were over done and could not taste the difference between the regular french fries and the fries cooked in duck fat.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere. I've been dining here for several decades. It's never a disappointment.
We love Absinthe. The service, ambiance, energy are all great. My husband and I each ordered a delicious green salad. Delicious and quite large. Then we both got the burger and fries. The presentation was great. The burgers were overcooked. I ordered mine rare and it was medium well. Bill ordered med-rare and it was the same. If a French restaurant cannot make a rare burger, well, quite disappointed. And if they cannot cook it the way you'd like it they need to tell you. I have NEVER, in nearly 30 years had a meal at Absinthe that was not stellar until this week. Disappointed.
Decent meal. Great table. Service was a bit too slow. It was Sunday at closing but we did have to wait too long for drinks and to get the bill. Still love it here and will go back.
Absinthe has never rested on their location.... the food, cocktails, wine and service continues to be excellent
