This place is a gem. Stumbled in here when HK lounge was too full for lunch. It was deserted when we came in and the prices were a little high, so I was a little apprehensive but let me tell you what, this place is phenomenal. Staff is very kind and the food was fantastic. The best sushi that I've had in san francisco. Incredibly high quality fish and incredibly beautifully and masterfully prepared. Blown away by every dish, but the bento was very special as was the salmon chirashi.

Definitively the best kaiseki experience in SF. Run entirely by a husband-and-wife duo, the food is thoughtful, seasonal, and taste is outstanding. We had (in one meal) the freshest sashimi, delicate tempura, hutomaki, sukiyaki with uni, wagyu on hot stone grill, and so many other delights. I have never had Japanese food in the US that tasted the same (and possibly better) than what I’ve had in Japan, until I came to Akari. Please give it a try!
