Didn’t try the food on my visit so I cannot vouch for that. Great service & tasty cocktails. The atmosphere is quirky & reminded me of Tim Burton’s movies.

Stepping into The Alchemist is an experience in itself! The styling and atmosphere are incredibly cool and unique, truly transporting you to another world. It's the perfect spot for a night out in San Francisco, whether you're looking for a chill evening or a lively start to your night or even a couple of happy hour drinks before the game.

Excellent bar and lounge. Great for giants games and non giants games.

Some of the best bat eats and drinks to come out of a bar in San Francisco! Love this place on the weekends.

I’ve never heard someone blaming me for something that their colleague said. Definitely don’t go if you value your time there.

Earlier in the evening I checked with the female bartender about closing time and she assured me the bar would stay open until 12:30 AM. Close to midnight I went back for a nightcap; this time the man running the bar poured the beer himself. While handing it over he added, “You’ve got about twenty, twenty-five minutes,” which lined up perfectly with the 12:30 closing I’d already been told, so I settled in and paced myself.

At 12:20—ten minutes before either of the times I’d been given—the same man stormed over, snapped “Time’s up, out,” and started herding me toward the door. I reminded him, as politely as I could, that his coworker had said 12:30 and he himself had just sold me the beer with a twenty-minute window. His answer: “I don’t care what she told you. That’s your problem,” delivered with a glare and a dismissive wave.

I understand last call and I respect closing hours, but blaming customers for believing the staff and then cutting them off early is a great way to make sure they never return. This bar couldn’t keep its own story straight for thirty minutes—and decided the easiest fix was to shove the confusion onto the people paying the tab. With so many friendlier options nearby, I won’t be back, and I’d suggest you skip it too.

Update: this was resolved.

A group of friends went out here last Saturday and had a table reserved. At the end of the night we split the bill with two cards; a 20% gratuity was included. I did not add in additional gratuity and neither did my friend. Our credit card statements have an additional 25% gratuity added on each of our portions of the bill which was extremely alarming.

This place has huge potential, however it was currently run in a way where my friend and I decided to leave again after 10 minutes. The interior is very well designed for a kind of speakeasy or oldtimey or steampunky atmosphere, but then they play some r&b / hip-hop music that completely doesn't fit that style. Additionally it's played so loud that it's hard to talk, which just doesn't fit with the style of the interior. This isn't a club. The cocktails .. they looked really unique and adventurous, but we got two different ones that seemed interesting and neither of us liked either, they seemed to prioritize sounding unique and special over actually being good.
So it felt like this bar was having a bit of an identity crisis. I wish they'd lower the music, go for a more appropriate genre (no need for a DJ either ..), and then hire a good bartender to redo their cocktail menus. Service itself was courteous and quick. I also like that they do seating and don't overcrowd this bar.

The drink was mixed well and strong. It's quite dark in the bar and the music is quite loud. We were served water in plastic cups, whereas others were served water in a glass. We didn't have much time so we only ordered one drink. When asked, they also explained what the drink tasted like. All in all a speakeasy that was absolutely fine.
