4/25/25. Arrived to find that it was closed and not even open. Windows boarded up
Great place in the neighborhood! No frills old school diner serving up all your typical breakfast fares.
I like an old fashion diner style eatery but this place really didn’t do it for me. I had to sit at the front counter on a stool which I hate because the table section of the diner was closed. The country fried steak was nothing spectacular and the consistency of the gravy was too thick for a country fried steak in my opinion. The best part of the meal was the hash browns that were made in sort of a scalloped potatoes type of way which were absolutely perfect. But I’m always willing to give a place a second chance so I will be back again.
Food was perfect!!! Cooked to order specs and very nice!! Don't think, just gooooo!!!
Had a great experience at Al’s this weekend. Huge portions and great value. This diner is really a gem and rare nowadays. Their hash brown is probably the best hash brown I’ve ever had! The owner is super nice and friendly. I’m so glad I stumbled in here and will be returning soon
This old school dinner is just what you need when you don't want to cook. Friendly and homey spot to go talk with the owner about SF and get dinner recommendations. Breakfast served all day!

I wish I could give a zero but the food was not that good and the old guy kept insisting a tip and stood over our table till we payed the amount. Instead of just giving us the check walk away and wait till we are ready to pay. He stood there till we paid never would I come back here. And the price was over charged without receipt !! I’ll never come back here again !!!!!!

The food is pretty okay in flavor and the older man who served, who I assume is Al, was very friendly but there are many downsides to this small restaurant. The kitchen and dining areas are very run-down and dirty. Both the cook and older man were handling food without gloves on and didn't wash their hands for the entire hour that we were dining in. He was touching various dirty surfaces, handling pens, money, note paper and his credit card machine and not once did he wash his hands... Not to mention the cookware was not once washed between dishes ordered by other customers. Al (the older man) also talked to his cook in a demeaning and degrading way. He doesnt let the man breathe one bit. Another negative was that they do not wear hairnets when handling your food. My family member was about to take a bit of his eggs when he noticed a hair in them. At the finally of our visit, the older man asked what percentage tip we wanted to leave as if it were mandatory, suggesting 15 or 20 percent. I settled on leaving a 10 percent tip which he gave me a kind of off-putting look for.

Delicious and cheap diner food! Not trendy in the best of ways. The hash browns were great and the owner/server was such a sweetheart.
The elderly man who served us had to deal with a couple trying to dine and dash and when he confronted them, the woman spat on his face. He (and his restaurant) deserve your support. I’m sure it’d mean a lot to him if more people showed up. This was my first time but I’ll be back!

This is THE spot to go, can’t wait to come back. Solid portion sizes, delicious poached eggs, great prices, friendly service (Larry’s a real one!) and all the food is fresh (never frozen.) Also the coffee cups are cute!!

Don’t miss this place. This is the quintessential American diner, ripe with history. Both in its patrons and in the cooking style. My omelette, toast, hash browns, and pancakes weren’t just delicious, they were delivered with the kindness and love that only comes with decades of patronage. The bottomless diner coffee, while exactly the same in every way as other breakfast places, becomes outstanding in this atmosphere. All my choices were vegetarian btw!
This place is a classic and a staple.
