Excellent intimate sushi spot! The nigiri omakase is fantastic and we added on waygu and unagi. Great ambience - sitting at the bar is recommended so you can see the chef in action.

Had a great time here chatting with the chef. Very friendly and attentive service that makes you feel at home. The first bite was incredible and had me very excited for everything to come. The fish and rice were spot on, delightful mix of firm and buttery nigiri, with rice that is firm and well seasoned. Tempura fried silver fish was very craveable. Ended the meal with a simple miso soup that left me satisfied and longing to go back.

An is a very intimate and authentic Japanese restaurant located inside of the Japantown Mall. There are only 8 seats at the bar and 3-4 other tables for 2 (max 4), so be sure to make a reservation weeks ahead!
The Chef's omakase is the way to go here. It's an 8 course meal - it came with a few appetizer dishes ahead of the nigiri, including a few slices of sashimi, a chawanmushi, and miso marinated black cod, ahead of 7 amazing chef-choice cuts of nigiri. Check out the pictures to see how fresh each of these pieces of nigiri and sashimi are. It also came with a nice little strawberry and chocolate mochi dessert at the end.
An is a hidden gem in SF where there are so many options. This one is very affordable and the chefs explained each dish perfectly. Would highly recommend An!

Very classic and tradition. I have had sushi all over the place. I used to dive and spearfish. I have a divers taste pallet. Very hard to please my taste buds! This was the best sushi I haver ever tasted and the experience was Epic! Such lovely family owned and very kind , polite. I had a wonderful time!!! Make sure to book early very small seating! Will come back soon!

What a wonderful dining experience, the food and service were excellent!! Definitely the concept of "omotenashi" on full display! The Chef's Omakase Nigiri was a wonderful journey through a variety of courses of excellent quality and different flavor profiles. Highly recommended!

My wife and I went here for our 10th wedding anniversary. What a great find! The setting is simple yet intimate. The food is wonderful and the fish as good and fresh as you’d get in Tokyo. The chef goes out of his way to describe each fish and the proper way to enjoy it based upon the preparation. Would strongly recommend the omakase nigiri.
