Expensive, looks good but taste is mediocre for most dishes we tried like the steak.
Going to bansang has been a topic of discussion between us for the past six months. I’m actually never getting over this meal
Mulwhe noodles were recommended by the waiter and they were the perfect first bite. I really enjoyed the spicy sauce and the banchan that they plopped on top. Normally not a fan of cold noodles but I ate this up
Uni scallop toast was phenomenal. Bread was soft on the inside and slightly crunchy on the outside, and the oceanic flavor from the uni, scallops, and seaweed puree was a nice punch in the face.
I liked the Korean twist on the steak tartare — Asian pear and sesame oil! It’s paired with seaweed which further brought out the flavors
Kimchi fried rice 😻😻😻 best dish. Best thing my mouth has ever experienced. So spicy, lots of meat, omg. Everyone deserves to eat this at least once in their life
I also loved the gochujang black cod. Incredibly tender and a bit sweet from the sauces
Miso marinated pork would’ve been even better if we weren’t on the verge of combustion. But regardless we still agreed that it was a really great dish for being the mid meat that is pork.
All the deserts were just wow. My fav was the pear sorbet 🍐

The best dish for us during our dinner were the Potato Pancake and the oysters.
Other dishes we tried but didn't quite have the best time with: jellyfish salad, uni scallop toast, and Gochujang Black Cod. - ended up being too sea food a night for us I guess.
Soju and Tonic - was nothing to rave about either. Basic but okay.
I think the prices were a little over the top.. But you live and you learn. Good quality food but the taste just didn't slap for all the dishes this time for us. Oh well :)

Decent experience. Interesting flavors. But too pricey for the experience.

Bansang continues to impress every time I visit. The food and service just keep getting better, and you can really feel the care they put into curating their menu. Every dish is thoughtful and beautifully presented.
Highly recommend trying their signature Mulhwe—refreshing, bold, and unlike anything else in the city. The crunchy potato pancake is perfectly crispy, and the savory mushroom pasta is rich and comforting. Everything I’ve tried has been consistently top-notch.
Definitely a place I’ll keep coming back to. A must-try Korean fusion spot in SF!

Our meal at Bansang was a delightful journey through refined Korean cuisine, showcasing both traditional elements and innovative presentations.
We started with the oysters, beautifully presented on a bed of ice. Each oyster was topped with a vibrant, finely diced salsa, offering a refreshing and briny start to the meal.
Next, we indulged in what appeared to be a stunning piece of grilled fish. The perfectly seared exterior and rich, glistening sauce promised a depth of flavor, complemented by fresh herbs and pickled elements. Another standout appetizer was the dish featuring what looked like seared scallops or a similar delicate protein, elegantly drizzled with a colorful sauce and garnished with fresh greens and edible . The presentation was exquisite, hinting at a delicate and flavorful profile.
The uni toast was an absolute highlight. Perched atop a perfectly toasted brioche, the creamy uni was generously topped with glistening ikura (salmon roe) and what appeared to be a sweet, sticky glaze. This dish was a harmonious blend of textures and oceanic flavors.
For our main courses, the kimchi fried rice was a comforting yet elevated dish, topped with a perfectly fried egg and garnished with fresh scallions and sesame seeds. The rich color suggested a deeply flavorful and satisfying rendition of this Korean staple. We also enjoyed a unique dish featuring tender rice cakes (tteok) alongside what appeared to be braised short ribs or another rich meat, adorned with finely julienned egg and fresh vegetables. This offered a wonderful combination of chewy, tender, and fresh elements.
Finally, the sliced steak was cooked to a perfect medium-rare, showcasing its beautiful marbling. Served with an array of thoughtful accompaniments including a vibrant mixed green salad, sautéed greens, and various sauces, it was a testament to the kitchen's ability to execute classic dishes with precision and flair.
Bansang truly delivers a memorable dining experience. From the inviting atmosphere to the artfully presented and incredibly delicious dishes, it's clear that every detail is carefully considered. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a sophisticated and flavorful Korean culinary adventure.

Interesting food - great flavors - I particularly liked the noodle and fried chicken appetizers. I don't understand why, despite requesting each time they brought the food (and it was served tapas style for 4 of us to share) they don't bring any serving utensils!?!?
really cute elegant spot that would be great for a date or celebration. came here for a bday and the shared plate style is good for groups. everything on the menu is listed as either tapas or large tapas. our favorites were the pork jowl, steak, and cream pasta. our server was attentive, and food came quite quickly, however the restaurant was not busy when we went.

Great meal celebrating my friend's birthday. Particularly loved the sunchokes and kimchi salad.
Highlights were kimchi fried rice and bao bun. Uni toast had a bitter after taste from bread and def not worth the price. Black cod fish was cooked well, sauce was too sweet. Truffle sunchoke was decent. Overall its a casual restaurant setting and not fine dinning for special occassion.

Great food. The waiter was good at guiding me to options that don't have shellfish since I have a shellfish allergy and shellfish is a minor ingredient in many items in n the menu. Everything we ate was delicious!
The menu is great, regularly updated, and this korean fusion food makes absolute fine dining. However, last time we were here, the overall experience felt too fast-paced and industrial for the price point. Dishes were prepared and served very quickly ( all 5 dishes arrived together within a ~10-15 minutes time), which dosen't match my expectations for a ~$100 meal. When I invest in high-quality dining, I appreciate having the time to enjoy the meal in a more relaxed atmosphere, not feeling like the service is rushing me through the experience.
So delicious. Fun tapas style shareable plates. Fried chicken was a stand out but it was all great. .
