Le Comptoir (Tasting Menu) Experience: A 12-course French omakase tasting menu was equal to my most memorable awesome tastes of the Inn At Little Washington, 1 hour from DC in VA. Do not miss this gift of an experience with Chef Crenn. WoW and yummy was expressed by all 3 of us the entire 12-courses. More Michelin stars should be on the way.

The bar is insufficiently stocked and the bartender is surprisingly unskilled and unaccommodating. Asked for a basic cocktail (Walk-me-down) and they didn’t have the right ingredients or knowledge to make. Unreal.

I adore a comfortable bar seat, and Bar Crenn has created a cozy space to engage with the staff and fellow diners. One of the best tasting menus I've enjoyed.
Lucky enough to be seated with an amazing group who were just as awed by the experience. Dishes and wine pairings were phenomenal, and the sommelier was a perfect guide to the evening.

Absolute Gem of a Bar;
The host graciously accommodated us arriving early without hesitation, making us feel instantly welcome.

Inside felt like entering a cozy Japanese sanctuary dedicated to music lovers. The atmosphere is intimately inspired by classic vinyl listening rooms, warm lighting, shelves lined with records.

The staffs drink recommendations for my partner were spot on, Daniel took the time to understand her tastes and suggested a creative cocktail that she loved. My drink (mezcal Negroni) and her’s were well balanced and flavorful.

Great service, sophisticated yet relaxed, incredible ambiance and thoughtful drinks = 5 stars.

I’m leaving this review with mixed feelings because Bar Crenn used to be one of my favorite spots in the city. My first visit was exceptional—the food, drinks, ambiance, and service were all incredible, which is why I chose to return and bring friends for a birthday celebration.

However, this recent visit was disappointing and uncomfortable, and I feel it’s important for others to be aware.

From the moment I walked in, the initial greeting from Aude felt unusually curt. I completely understand that staff get busy, but the tone and manner in which I was told to step back toward the door and wait felt unnecessarily dismissive.

Once seated, our server was great, and for a moment it felt like the evening might smooth out. But what ultimately prompted me to write this review was the continued interactions with a staff member named Aude.

In the U.S., it’s incredibly common—and often safer—for women to go to the restroom in pairs. Two of my friends (one visibly Caucasian, one visibly Asian) went together with no issues. However, when my other friend and I, who both appear Hispanic, went to the restroom, we were immediately approached and told we could only enter one at a time. She later claimed this was for the safety of her patrons, but it felt really uncomfortable as this assumes bad intent on our behalf.

What felt especially uncomfortable was seeing two Caucasian women go in together right after us without being stopped or given the same instruction. It left the impression that the “policy” was applied selectively and that assumptions were being made about us based on appearance rather than behavior.

After that, the same staff member repeatedly came to our table—specifically while the bill was present—and checked on us in a way that felt more evaluative than hospitable. At one point she asked, “How do you plan on taking care of this tonight?” in a tone that made it seem as though she questioned our ability to pay. Combined with the restroom interaction, it created a heightened sense of being singled out and scrutinized in a way the other patrons were not.

She did apologize as we were leaving since she could tell I was visibly upset at this point, but at that time—after everything had been settled—it felt more like an attempt to cover an uncomfortable moment rather than a sincere effort to address what had happened.

We originally planned to stay for multiple rounds, but chose to leave early. I don’t feel comfortable spending money in an establishment where my friends and I are treated differently based on appearance or assumptions.

Bar Crenn is in a neighborhood that is predominantly Caucasian, but this is San Francisco—a city known for its diversity and inclusivity. I genuinely hope management takes this feedback seriously, ensures all staff understand how to apply policies consistently, and fosters an environment where all patrons feel welcome and respected.

The food and drinks are still wonderful, but the experience this time made it hard to enjoy them.

Duh! Who wouldn’t want to eat and drink under the auspices of the legend, Chef Dominique Crenn? This place is awesome. The food is excellent and the menu changes quite often. The staff is so welcoming and just downright nice and sincere. The vibe is completely cool. Best to grab a reservation rather than be disappointed at the door as a walk in. Twist my arm time to go there any day of the week. Le Comptoir? Yeah, it’s a bucket list item for sure. Snag a seat if you can
for a special meal at the bar.

Drinks here are elevated and crafted so well! Came here on a Friday night before 9pm and Bar Crenn was starting to fill up. They do have two small tables for standing room if you do not have a reservation and if they’re booked with reservations. Theres a minimum spend requirement when reserving.

Not pictured but Bergamo has to be one of my favorite cocktails. The fresh orange juice is so refreshing. If you like desserts, I would recommend the Chocolate flower, the texture and flavors are really nice.

After a brief but delicious early dinner at Anchovy Bar, I decided to try and get a seat at Bar Crenn up Fillmore over in the Marina. The opaque black windows and unmarked facade looks similarly anonymous to its famous next door 3 Star Michelin restaurant, Atelier Crenn.

Once I got to the door, I saw the fantastic remodeled interior and curved wooden backbar. The hostess seated me toward the end of the bar, a couple seats over from the center. There are nice arm chairs and corners for couples and groups near the front window.

Marcos, the bartender was friendly and we chatted about cocktail bars and the bar program at Bar Crenn, which was innovated by Director of Mixology Florian Thireau, who has written two cocktail books and worked at Buddha Bar and The Cheval Blanc in Paris, Palmer & Co in Sydney, The Zetter TownHouse and The Peninsula in London.

When I told him about the carbonated Margarita Ji Bol I had just had at the Daisy Margarita Bar in LA, Marcos recommended the Mizuwari, an interpretation of a Japanese Highball with elderflower, peach, olive oil, lemon, and Toki whisky. I was sublimely blended with a floral fruit essence reminiscent of champagne. Marcos said that the ingredients had to be clarified so that they blended into the carbonation without getting coagulated on the bubbles. An enjoyable and light drink.

Having had a light dinner, I was still keen on ordering a choice appetizer. So I ordered the house-made pretzel with a side of mustard. The pretzel was extremely hot. I had to wait a bit before I could tear it apart. The server poured a light cheese fondue on the side of the mustard. It was tasty and baked with the quality you might get next door.

For my second and final drink for the evening, I ordered their signature drink, the Gospel, an espresso martini containing salted coffee, orange, ginger, picon and St. George vodka. It had a burst of flavor between the ginger and orange atop the coffee elements and spirit. Creative approach to elevating an espresso martini.

Everything about Bar Crenn exudes class but it is still approachable and somewhat casual which was not the case at Clemente Bar in NYC. The drinks were also superb. Seems like a perfect spot for a date. Look forward to returning to try more of the cocktail menu.

Came for cocktails. Uncomfortable seats - some of which were nothing more than foot stools. Music was way too loud and did not complement the space or theme. Drinks were good but honestly, nothing special. Service was not particularly attentive. Mostly fluff and little substance. Not worth a return visit.

Recommend making a reservation as the place is small and walk-ins may need to wait a while. Drinks were pretty strong and well made.
