Cool local hangout in San Francisco's gayborhood, the Castro. Fun spot to grab a drink and munchies while people-watching through the large street level windows. Great staff, full bar, and an energetic vibe.

Great chill neighborhood bar with food that’s popular with locals. Friendly, attentive bartenders and good cocktails. Highly recommended!

First let me say, I LOVE the ever so comfortable bar stools. Server was really nice, space is spotless and at noon (Friday) when it opened music wasn't ear piercing, more akin to background, which I did enjoy. Many items on the menu certainly looked enticing. Friend set their site on Fish Tacos, which were HUGE and one needed to eat w/a fork and knife, very messy. Decent serving of Onion Rings, but sadly they were "not hot". Lukewarm food is always my biggest pet peeve. I tried the Fish Sandwich w/steak fries. Bun was way too small for the size of fish on this sandwich. Fish was also huge, but I believe under fried and pretty mushy. Maybe 10 fries on this order as well, also somewhat luke warm. Sadly that sandwich did not sit well as the day wore on. Something I would not order again. Decent pours of beer on tap and nice and COLD. Not sure I will be returning as this was $30 including the tip. They are usually quite busy, so will probably not miss whether I return or not.

This place is a welcome alternative to the very mediocre dark bars in the Castro full of depressing drunks and crappy beer/wine options. One side of the bar is full windows, which gives it a great convivial atmosphere.

We’ve been a few times since they opened and it’s been consistently great! Good food, great service and incredible environment. Fair prices. Such a wonderful addition to the neighborhood!

I also really wanted to like this establishment, but it was just ok. The staff acted like they couldnt be bothered and it just put us off. Theres so many other options with a more approachable staff.

I really wanted to like this place but it was just okay.

Pros:
- super cute space, perfect amount of light
- always seems to have a fun crowd

Cons:
- service was meh, not very friendly
- menu said the chicken wrap comes with fries but they said it’s an add on when I went to order? For $20 after tax, it was dry and weird. Big chunks of cucumber and had cherry tomatoes instead of sun dried as the menu said. The actual chicken was good tho.

Great atmosphere, but it took 15 mins to get our beer and all the food and drinks were mediocre at best

I love this place so much. They allowed me to host my bday party and were beyond professional and helpful. Previous customers were all out way before the reservation started, large food orders came quickly so no pre-orders needed, and the manager Colm and bartenders were very kind and responsive. The space feels like someone’s nice modern apartment and always cozy. Cocktails are great too. Thank you!

We stopped in for drinks and ended up staying for dinner! The fish and chips were sooo good, crispy yet still tender. We munched on charcuterie and hung out, great addition to the neighborhood.

Bar 49 is a great spot for drinks in the heart of Castro. Lots of natural light and great for a sunny day. They have some good food options too. We ordered a grilled fish sandwich and chicken tenders, which were both great. For drinks, we ordered a margarita slushie and the 7x7 which was a mezcal cocktail with raspberry, both were delicious.
