I have to give the lines 5 stars out of 5. I came here on 2/18/22, and it was impeccable. The line went out past the Nihonmachi Little Friends and slowly creeped up the street.Famously, since Benkyodo is retiring, you will hear people remark that it is closing forever very soon, and that the lines are always very long, or asking whether this is the line for the mochi, or whether it is worth it.I think the line got shorter from people quitting faster than people were actually served. What's that all about? After an hour of waiting like a chump, the staff said they wouldn't have anymore left for us.I came back on Saturday morning 2/19/22, and the line went even farther --- double the length of what it was the previous day.To quote the staff: "The lines are always terrible on Friday and Saturday. Come on the weekday."

Good spot. Food a four, service and ambiance a five. I'll be sad when it's gone. Best mochi I've had since LA and Japan.

The mochi is amazing! You will want to get there early as there is a line that friends before the doors open. I ended up getting 2 of everything except strawberry because it was it of season. If you love mochi you have to try this place!

Benkyodo is quite the popular mochi shop. Pro tip, call ahead or go early to pre pay and reserve some items, because they will run out before they actually close. They do seasonal flavors, and I got to try the mango and the blueberry. The mango was the most delicious fresh fruit mochi I have ever had.

Best mochi I ever had. Not to sweet, but satisfying. I wish they had more flavors for me to try, but what I got. I'm very happy. Must try if your in Japan Town

I came here on a Friday at 11:56 am and the wait was about 15 mins. It is a cash only. They have a minimum of two mochi per customer for their popular flavors: mango and blueberry. The mochi is delicious and not overly sweet.

The mochi is so tender and flavorful. So tasty!

The sweets were amazing, but be warned about the wait! It is cash only.

There's a reason this place has been around for over a century! Stop by for fresh mochi and Japanese donuts. They also have a nice array of traditional Japanese snacks. Get there early since they close when they sellout.

This place is wonderful! Family owned and operated, Benkyodo makes the fluffiest, tastiest mochi I've ever had. We tried the mango and blueberry seasonal options and were not disappointed. Like other reviewers have said, get there early to avoid missing the best ones!

They are very good - I want more.

Mochi is always better than their lackluster service.

Have been going here since I was young and my mom would take my sister and I to Japantown. The freshest manju and mochi! My favorite is the Pink Habutai, which has white lima beans instead of the more commonly used red beans, making it something I've only ever had here. Plus, nothing can compare to having it freshly made, the mochi is always so soft!
