This place really is a gem! Not the best hours, but never disappoints. The owner is very accommodating and oh so sweet. Amazing prices means you can take the whole family, or be a cool local and flex on em with a new mom n’ pop shop. Great treat in the heart of the Mission. ShoutoutKid-friendliness: Samples / small sizes / affordable / not overwhelming

Pleasantly surprised! I'm an east coast native so I was expecting to be slightly disappointed, but it's great! The lemon was just perfect. My son got mango and it was pretty darn good as well. What a great find!

I can't really recommend this place for my initial visit since the soft serve was out of order the day I went and that is what I wanted. But the guy working there was nice. I got a lychee and a black cherry icee. Both were fine but not a ton of flavor.I will say that prices for San Francisco are VERY reasonable.I will be back and see if we can get this score up.

When I stopped by Bernie Bee's recently for the first time, I couldn't help but recall my visit to The Lemon Ice King of Corona back in Queens. That place was more of a "ba-da-boom, ba-da-bing" old-school Italian ice shop where everyone's name was Vinnie or Tony (review: yelp.to/m8ryhOtIRv). Owner David Fagan wasn't wearing a wife beater and a gold chain when I paid a visit on a particularly hot day.He has a more California-friendly shop, even though his heart is in Philly. It's a compact space on Mission next to the repurposed Grand Theatre. His hometown-derived flavors were reminiscent of the Corona King in the wide variety of icy flavors. I believe at least a dozen were showcased in his freezer. If I was a true goombah, I would've gone for the ice by itself. But I was drawn to the glamour of the $4 Regular Combo cup which allowed me to have an ice layered with vanilla soft serve (photo: yelp.to/IR0PCvVkRs). I decided on the Mango Ice, and it was quite a refreshing indulgence for a weekday afternoon. Given the high quality of the product, I was surprised more people were not taking advantage of David's impressive suite of Italian ices.ICES - 5 stars...fruity flavors most refreshing, smoother than shave iceAMBIANCE - 4 stars...small spot but quite inviting SERVICE - 5 stars...David puts a lot of effort into his ices and he's generous with the portionTOTAL - 5 stars...The Lemon Ice King of the MissionRELATED - Exploring the Mission? Great customer service, love the classic Philly ice + soft serve combo. Reasonable prices too.

As a New Yorker, childhood summer memories were painted with scoops of Italian ice. Whether it was the yellow cup of Marino's from our public school lunches or the $1 delight from a deli near the playground. Fast forward to today, under the scorching 80-degree Indian summer in SF, my cravings led me straight to Bernie Bee's. A revelation! Firstly, the prices blew me away. $5.50 for a generous pint of homemade freshness? Count me in. The flavor spectrum was vast but, tethered by nostalgia, I went for the classic lemon, accompanied by guava, mango/lime, and passion fruit. Every flavor danced on my palate. The texture was pure magic. Gone were the days of hard Italian ice where intense spoon-scraping was the norm. Bernie Bee's offers a velvety consistency intertwined with delicate crystallized ice - offering that crunch and punch of flavor in each bite.In conclusion, Bernie Bee's Italian Ice is a gem. Thrilled to have discovered it and I eagerly await my next visit. Highly recommend!

Great spot in the mission for some soft serve and Italian ice! If you're strolling along Mission watching the low riders on the weekend, grab some ice cream and enjoy the show

Incredible! How there isn't a line out the door every day is a mystery, but come enjoy before that inevitably happens. Cheap and delicious and great service to.boot, no notes!

This is the perfect refreshing snack on a hot day. Get yourself a half Italian ice, half soft serve and walk over to LAC for a margarita. :)

Common man! No complaints on the gelato. It’s great. It’s the lack of consistent business hours and not having a phone number posted here on Google so somebody like myself can call before I drive halfway across town believing that there’s an hour left till you close at 6:30. Hire a part-time worker in afternoons, allowing her you can go out and market your business around the city and expand your business to catering public/private venues etc. There’s 101 different venues in the city every month food for thought.

The Italian ice was so good! The person running the shop was also very nice!
