The place is great. Great historic building, great Xmas decorations, great service. However, don´t think the breakfast buffet is worth $49. Even when I had $90 included every day for breakfast, I still had to pay around $60 every morning, just for coffee and tips for 2 people. But don´t overthink about staying at this great hotel.
Great view comes with a price. The building is at the top of a hill, so if you are planning on walking, be prepared to climb. But there is always the cable cars that leaves you right at the back door.

I am writing this review for the Holiday Tea at the Fairmont. My family and I had a lovely time and the service was delightful—a perfect balance of attentive but letting us enjoy the holiday celebration. I also wanted to shout out Lakers, the lovely lobby security guard. After the tea, my family wanted a picture in front of the tree, and she was exceptionally sweet and caring. It is rare that we get a whole family photo, and now our holidays are even more special because of her.

There was some chipping in the mouldings, and there seemed to be some wear to the room, but the linens were clean and pressed, the view was spectacular and investing in the view seemed worth the price, and more than made up for any small paint wear. The wooden keycard is such a memorable keepsake and I loved the Le Labo soaps. The hairdryer was reasonably powerful and the towels and robe perfect for the room.

My friend ordered a meal from the hotel kitchen and it looked and smelled thoughtfully prepared. It was delivered with poise but also a great, genuine San Francisco charm and not overly stuffy nor requiring overdone niceties. The staff also delivered toothbrushes and offered wake up service!

Thank you so much for a lovely stay, and for consistently investing in the production of a magical Christmas for all! The accessible to the public gingerbread house is spectacular and I am so inspired by the work of your gingerhouse team.

The hotel itself is wonderful for wandering though and you can feel that many paths have crossed in its walls. Wonderfully high ceilings and a quietly lively underbelly produce a structure you can easily lose hours in.

If you come here on a weekend expect to wait and wait.
Valet parking ONLY which meant we waited over an hour in line.
Hotel valet insisted in taking our bags. We had to wait almost 3 hours after repeatedly calling the front desk asking for our luggage. Eventually we went downstairs and demanded we get out property. We were met with rudeness and confusion.

For the price we paid I expected way more from this establishment. I never waste my time writing a negative review… ever, but that’s how bad the service was at this place.

Our stay in the Santa Suite was exceptional and so memorable. Our room was filled with candy, cookies, champagne and more! Bottomless hot cocoa, a decorated tree! As we stayed all of our needs were met and all of the hotel employees were smiling and friendly even while working on Thanksgiving day. I appreciate them and want to thank the Fairmont for an amazing experience. We want to stay in the Tony Bennett suite next.

Nearby activities: Close to Chinatown, Northbeach and Union Square. Grace Cathedral in walking distance.

Noteworthy details: History, ballrooms, Tonga lounge, art showroom in lobby and best views in S.F.

Rating the Christmas decorations, Gingerbread House, and Rooftop Garden. I did not stay at the hotel. The lobby was well decorated and the Gingerbread house was spectacular! Gingerbread cookie smell really enhanced the experience as you walked through the real Gingerbread house. The rooftop garden was a great place to sit and relax. Great views and decorations. You do not need to be a hotel guest to access the rooftop garden.

My DIL and two young granddaughters and I had a very special experience staying in one of your charming Santa Suites! The accommodations were top tier, the decorations and accoutrements were lovely, and the view from our suite was superb! I honestly cannot think of anything that could have been improved!

My granddaughters loved taking bath with bath bombs in the soaking tub! We especially appreciated Alyssa's helpful information and assistance prior to our arrival and also the tip from the Concierge about purchasing the day passes for the cable cars and Muni lines of public transportation! It was the first time riding a cable car in beautiful SF for my DIL and granddaughters and it brought back lovely childhood memories for me as I spent a fair amount of time in this amazing city visiting my own grandmother and an aunt. My grandmother always said she left her heart in San Francisco after she moved to Santa Rosa after she retired. Anyway, thank you so much for the excellent experience!

Food and drinks: It was all very good- we ate at the Laurel Court and had room service a couple of times.

Even in the midst of all the holiday chaos they made my son’s 3rd birthday a dream come true! The staff, especially Riley M. & Ryan F. in concierge went above & beyond to accomodate our large party for dinner in the gingerbread house & even decked out our room/suite in holiday decor to make the experience even more magical! Love this beautiful hotel & superb service, thank you all so much!

The front desk team was incredibly accommodating with my requests, the room was beautiful, the holiday decor and tree were stunning, the room service delivery person was really friendly and helpful. I had an immense migraine in the middle of the night and called down to the front desk. They bought me up medicine (purchased from the gift store and added to my account) and gave me complimentary water. I am grateful for their service and the beautiful stay.

Outdated & overpriced. They hotel USED to be a fine hotel, but they have turned it into a tourist spot valuing people coming into their lobby for a Christmas stay that makes it difficult to navigate. They charge $66 on the weekends for a terrible motel level buffet. Overall, there are much nicer options in San Francisco with properties that still pride themselves on being luxurious and service forward.

tl;dr, I would have been quite annoyed if I'd have spent my own money to be here.

The good:
- the person who checked me in was super friendly and welcoming
- the location is fantastic
- the decorations for Christmas were great
- the rooms are clean
- the bed was comfy

The bad:
- one night I asked for a plate with a knife and fork to be sent up to my room; quite a simple request; it never arrived and my dinner got cold before I got tired of waiting
- the air conditioning cycles on and off really loudly, and woke me up several times
- the sound isolation is pretty poor, you can hear a lot of the noise from the street below
- the bathroom is very old fashioned, and the radius of the shower is pretty small. Maybe I've been spoiled by rainfall showerheads, but I didn't enjoy my showers here
- there's a tablet that's constantly lighting up in room with their advertising, which you have to turn off every single night if you don't want another light in the room
