Expensive food and interesting ambience describes my Friday night tasting.

There were multiple parties that cycled through that came prepared with influencer gear. Throughout the night we counted 3 mini tripods and 2 external lighting devices from influencers dining at the chefs table. Shameless and did not add to our experience in any way.

The food was decent but we found two dishes inedible. One of our quail breasts had a bone embedded in it, and we had to unceremoniously spit the mouthful out. Second the property’s wild boar dish was underwhelming. The boar’s skin was part of the dish and was super dry and hard to chew and swallow. We had to spit this out too.

There were some amazing bites though. The uni bomb was incredible as was the quail broth and fish. The staff was friendly, attentive, and welcoming.

I made last minute plans (the day before) with a friendly couple to dine in this place and my friend’s wife got diagnosed with COVID-19, so we felt it was our duty as responsible people to cancel our reservation 6 hours after making it. Sadly enough the restaurant manager did not feel as responsible about a possible spreading of COVID-19 through their restaurant and told us that we had to come or else we would lose $1,200 that we had to pay in advance to dine there. WOW!! Only to think how many hundreds of thousand people died from this only 2 years ago, and here we were being asked to either SPREAD more of the DEADLY VIRUS or waste $1,200 for a reservation that we made 6 hours ago. We asked multiple times for a credit so that we can safely come visit another day and the answer was NO. Of course, it was our duty to stay in and save people from COVID-19 and now we’re left with this. What am I to make of it? Well, so many things to process, and a public review for all to know how money hungry this business is, beyond even thinking of protecting its customers. SO DISTURBING!

The service at this restaurant was atrocious. The staff was more concerned with disliking each other rather than serving the customers. For example, some staffed stopped what they were doing just to give angry looks at the waiting staff - as if they were expecting them to fail.

We’ve waited 4 hours and paid nearly $1300 for a mediocre meal for 3 people. The head chef was aware and didn’t seem to care for our concerns.

I would avoid this place, there are plenty of other Michelin and non-Michelin-rated restaurants that offer far more value and substantially better service. Way to ruin a birthday.

Extremely disappointing service. I made a reservation (for the following day) that i had to cancel 6 hours after making it because of Covid and the restaurant refused to reschedule it because it was within the cancelation window.
It took more than a month to get someone to respond that they cant do anything and they are keeping the deposit and cant use it against a future reservation.
Honestly it was the most wasteful $1200 I’ve spent but most importantly it showcases their philosophy around customer service and the fact that instead of accommodating a future customer eager to come back they would rather keep $1200. Extremely short sighted and lacking ethos.
Disappointed

It was an amazing experience. I love every dishes from the menu. 5/5 no doubt. The experience worth $400 per person price tag I would say.

A positive first— the service was incredible. Unfortunately the flavors were incredibly bland relative to other Michelins we’ve been to. And in the case of one dish— we almost had to let the food out of our mouths into a napkin. I hate leaving negative reviews, but this was the most tasteless food I’ve eaten in a long time at any restaurant. I’m hopeful we just were present at a night where the seasoning was off, but wanted to share so others don’t regret spending their money.

Was at Birdsong for a private event. We went through a seven course meal, paired with wines and drinks. The great thing was that although I was not having alcohol that day, they found good non-alcoholic options to pair with drinks. I’ve often found that food at very upscale places is less tasteful and more pretentious.
This was not the case at Birdsong. The food was really delicious, and as you can see the plating and the service were excellent. We got to tour the kitchen in the end for desserts, which was definitely the highlight of the day.
Highly recommended

Celebrated my birthday here back in March and had a great time!!! The service was excellent and if you’re dining alone they’ll seat you at the bar where you can see the staff in the kitchen which I really enjoyed. Standouts for me were the lacquered quail and sea urchin cream puff.

Staff also went above and beyond for me—the strap of one of my heels very unfortunately broke on my way home from the bathroom at the end of the meal, so I was served tape as the final course ???? Thank you, Birdsong!

I was really excited to try out this restaurant with my father. It was his first fine dining experience, but this experience has turned him off from fine dining altogether. We both walked away feeling incredibly uncomfortable, so much so that I feel like I have no choice but to share my experience. We selected the “Journey” dining experience. In terms of food, the courses were good, but nothing knocked my socks off, especially if I’m comparing it to similarly priced chef’s tastings, like at LazyBear or Chapter One (Dublin). However, the treatment was absolutely terrible, and the treatment is the focus of this review.

When we were seated, we were given a wine list. I asked for a suggestion that would pair well with many of the courses b/c I only intended to have a glass or two throughout the experience. The waitress proceeded to read off each glass of wine listed on the menu, so I asked if she wouldn’t mind having the sommelier help us with a wine selection. Alex (the sommelier?) came over to the table and immediately said “I would never ask for a sommelier if I just want a glass. I’d just get a chardonnay. All of the dishes are very different, so there isn’t one in particular that I would suggest.” The tone was snippy & condescending. I told him I’ve been offered one wine that would pair well with the courses being offered in other experiences, & I was even open to a bottle, so that’s why I was asking for a suggestion.

Also, we couldn’t understand our waitress very well (she has an accent), and when my dad asked her to repeat what was in our dish, she seemed visibly annoyed. For example, at one point, my dad asked what was the concentrated brown substance at the bottom of the prawn dish made of and she said “its…the…prawn…” in a condescending tone, without any other description.

The staff knew we were feeling uncomfortable, and that did not make them act any warmer towards us. Early on in the evening, I asked Alex (I really hope that’s his name) if everything was okay since he seemed to be irritated. At another point in the night, one of the chef’s continued to hover near our table. When I said “hello, I figured I should say hi since you’re standing right here looking at us”, he responded “well yea I have a better view of the kitchen from here”. & while that may have been true, if a customer is indicating that you’re making them uncomfortable (which I absolutely did), I’d think you’d prioritize their experience and not continue to do this. It’s also worth noting that we had to ask for our table to be cleaned, and especially given that we were being watched so closely, we shouldn’t have needed to do this.

For context, we’re Black Americans. I already expect to be a speck of pepper in a sea of salt at this sort of establishment, but I have never been made to feel as unwelcome as I did at this place. The sense of otherness was palpable. This morning my dad told me that his experience at this restaurant brought him back to his time in the Deep South, which was truly heartbreaking. B/c we’d had a few glasses of wine, I honestly tried to gaslight myself into thinking I was just reading into things. However, after sleeping on it & reflecting on my experience, I can confidently say that the treatment was simply unacceptable.

I acknowledge that there’s a degree of stoicism in fine dining and that the servers frequently look at the table to see if you need anything, but this was different. If your customers are indicating discomfort, I’d think you’d want to check in to see if there’s anything you can do to improve the experience. You don’t continue to hover, stare, and speak to them in a belittling tone. I won’t explicitly speculate as to why were treated the way we were, but I think the implication is clear.

I’m so upset that this restaurant managed to turn my dad off from fine dining. At this point, I just want my money back and to forget I ever went to this place.

One of the best meals in America. So much amazing food with their big tasting menu. Do yourself a favor and sit at the chefs counter for dinner and a show. High Speed Dining approved.

I had an amazing dinner experience at Birdsong. This place is such a celebration of American cuisines. Every single dish is delicious and thoughtful. Meat is dry aged and cooked in wood fire oven. Every cut of meat is smoky and succulent. The best dishes of the night for me were shrimp with bread, the squab pithivier, and the fabulous corn bread. Wine list is impressive as well. Vibe is rustic and warm. You can see all the kitchen actions from your seat as it is open. Service is top notch as well.

This was such a wonderful experience! We did the 10 course Journey menu with the journey wine pairing to go with it.I have never been to one of these types of restaurants before and was a bit apprehensive that I may not like some of the fancy ingredients, but boy, was I wrong. Every dish was crafted meticulously, and the flavors went so well together, and yet they were so distinct you could feel every one of them. The service was beyond good, every member from the front of house to the kitchen pitched in and had choreographed movements from bringing/explaining the food to changing your napkin. It was our anniversary and the even made a little card and picture and brought an extra dessert souffle. We will definitely be going again and if you are looking for place like thus, I highly recommend Birdsong for sure!!
