I’ve been to La Bodega more than seven times, and it has never disappointed me.
The food is consistently delicious, the atmosphere is welcoming, and the service is always excellent. Every visit feels just as good as the first one.

It’s one of those places you can rely on every single time.
Highly recommended — I’ll definitely keep coming back.

My favorite restaurant in SF. Authentic flavors with an innovative twist and thoughtful presentation. The staff is warm and welcoming, treat you like family. Great wine & sake list! A rare union of food & vibes!

Food was not good, doesn’t taste authentic. Way overpriced!

Server was not friendly and was black face. It was like he was doing us a favor.

The only reason the place is packed is due to Chase Reserve dining credit. There are better choices in the area otherwise!

Realy great Faux Luc Lac, especially with the spices, right proportions, and the lemon zest on top. Paired with rice the dish was incredible!

Terrible weird service ruined our dining experience. We were abruptly asked to leave after our waiter forgot about us. No chance to order drinks or dessert and no apology.

Arrived on time for our reservation and immediately ordered drinks and all apps/mains. Service was very slow and waiter ignored us, we sat at least 15 min after entrees and were only able to get dessert/drinks menus from food runners.

Our server finally shows up to tell us he lost track of time we need to leave immediately for the next reservation to sit down. We had no prior warning and had been at the table for less than 90 minutes since our arrival. We had no chance to order additional drinks or dessert after sitting around waiting for most of the time. We don’t mind slow service but please serve us so we can actually order and eat/drink before being kicked out.

Server was extremely rude and unapologetic. He offered us dessert, not as an apology but rather for us to pay full price and take it to go. We declined the $16 to go dessert to eat out in the rain in the tenderloin. The food was good but the insulting and weird ending made us never want to return. Food runners were lovely and tried to save it but our server was determined to treat us like dirt. Can’t come back to a place like this.

We've been eagerly waiting for our lunch reservation since a while. This place is very popular and busy, making a reservation (OpenTable) far in advance seems like a must.
Chef Billy Ho opened this brick and mortar place in 2022, serving high quality traditional Vietnamese fine dining in a casual environment. We arrived at 11:30am and the restaurant was packed already. Very friendly, welcoming, and helpful staff at front desk, usher and waiter. Handicap access from sidewalk through the side door of the adjacent hotel lobby.
A vibrant place with various table, booth, and high chair seatings. No wait due to our reservation and seated immediately. Started with great cocktails while scanning the simple but excellent menu. Great explanations and recommendations from our waiter. Given the wonderful memories from our recent Vietnam travel, we ordered 4 dishes (finally ended up with 2 plates to go ;)). Served within a few minutes, very fast given how busy the restaurant was). Nicely plated, big portions. Delicious, tasty, high quality staple food. Very yummy!!! Given the high prices in the city and the bay area, this place is rather affordable and has an excellent ratio of quality / size and price. Obviously not as cheap as in Vietnam itself.
Highest recommendation, best Vietnamese place we have tested. Definitely will be back!

I had a truly disappointing experience at this restaurant—horrible is the only word that fits. I can see why it gets 4- and 5-star reviews; those must come from folks who haven’t tried authentic Vietnamese cuisine.
Our first dish, the bánh cuốn, arrived cold, and the tapioca wrapper lacked the soft, delicate texture it should have. Next, the nem cua was oddly inconsistent—piping hot inside but disappointingly soft on the outside, far from the crispy perfection expected.
As for the individual entrees: My bun cha was utterly average, missing that signature smoky, tangy essence that defines the dish. My son ordered the Bodega pho, which he found passable thanks to the generous proteins, but it came without any of the essential condiments or fresh vegetables that make pho complete. My friend’s pho Hanoi was the low point—the worst bowl he’s ever encountered. For $24, it had scarcely any stir-fried beef; he had to fish around just to gather what little there was onto a plate. When he showed it to the hostess, she coldly confirmed, “Yup, that’s it.”
The shaking beef and bo ne were similarly mediocre, falling well short of Vietnamese standards. These might satisfy a craving for non-Vietnamese diners or those with limited options, but they’re simply not up to par.
Service was sluggish throughout, and with our 2 p.m. reservation, we were rushed as the kitchen closed at 3 p.m. To make the most of my Chase Reserve credit before year-end, I even ordered two bun cha to go. Needless to say, I won’t be returning—what a letdown!
