The only thing good about this place is the view. The food was overloaded with tarragon, the fondue was a clump of warm cheese and the clam chowder was more of a soup than chowder. Server checked on us a good amount of times but kept forgetting to bring what we asked for. I was wondering why they had availability on a Saturday but I'm sure it's because most people know not to eat here. I would not recommend this pricy place for the quality of food you get. Almost $200 for 2 people and we didn't enjoy anything we ordered.

You can't beat the Franciscan for view and pretty good food. We took some out-of-town guests there, and they enjoyed both. However, I was disappointed in the initial experience. Granted, we arrived 3 minutes before 12, when the restaurant opens. All the staff were standing around talking or sitting at tables with their eyes glued to their phones. Two other parties were already waiting, and they said they didn't have a reservation, so I went forward to say I'd booked a table for 4 by the window. The gossiping staff told me to go wait by the door. Then we were seated last. What's the point of having a reservation is you get treated this way?

Had a reservation for 6pm, checked in and we're immediately seated. Had requested booth which was available. Ordered Seafood Cioppino, was good. Could have been better if broth was a little thicker but flavor was good. Service outstanding.

We had a reservation for 8 pm and was told on arrival that the kitchen closes at 8 pm and that we where asked to place our order asap. After we were seated it took some time before our waiter appeared. Our pre-dinner drinks and food arrived almost at the same time. The food was mediocre at best. This is a tourist trap through and through, choose someplace else to eat.

This is my favorite restaurant and i went with some family and friends for my birthday. Our waiter was kind of rude, whenever we called him over he rolled his eyes or huffed and puffed i understand the frustration of working in a busy place however this is your job. When we asked about the bottles of wine he didn't want to explain them to us so we ordered the wrong one, asked to change it and of course he was upset when we asked to switch it out. i'm usually a nice tipper , our waiter did not receive a tip for how rude he was on my birthday. Food was amazing as usual, came out really fast. overall i love this place and will still go back.

We arrived to a 1940's decor which is a beautiful building and quite nice inside with a great view of the sea. I first noticed that the cutlery was quite unclean and at that point my heart sank. I already new the food would not be good. We ordered coke that tasted awful. It was watery and tasted a bit like bleach. My daughter ordered chicken tenders and chips which were very dry and horrible. She left them. My son ordered a burger which came in a huge bun but again didn't look that nice, but he said it was ‘ok', but left half of it. I ordered a sea bass in a caper, garlic and butter sauce and came with a pasta and mixed vegetables. The fish didn't look like sea bass and didn't taste it either! It was dry and grey looking and tasted as if it had been in the freezer for a long time. The pasta and veg was tasteless too. The whole dish was watery. I took a few small bites and left it all as it was the worst food I've ever had. My husband has a prawn dish in a tomato looking sauce which he said was nice enough. We will never go back! Bloody awful and $155!

The Calamari was excellent, but the crab was a little disappointing. We ordered Dungeness and think we were served another type of crab. The legs and claws were very small and it was kind of over cooked.

Go for the view and the Dungeness crab. Stay for the vanilla ice cream & the service. Nice people, hot food directly and promptly from the kitchen. I've tried crab cakes a number if places, these were the best. Cooked to perfection and the prep showcased the crab. From the hey day of the Franciscan, 1970's & 1990's when I last visited, COVID has cut back on the white table cloths, plushness I remember, and a crush of diners so it was pleasantly quiet on a Wednesday evening. The Branzino was superb. I liked my fries with the crab sliders. I'm a weight watcher so it takes a lot for me to use points on fries. With malt vinegar these were delicious. If you want to see SanFrancisco Bay, Angel Island, and Alcatraz all at the same time with ocean going ships, sailboats, and ferries while you dine, this is the place.

This place is really getting dated. While there is some nostalgia in the fact that they haven't updated (or cleaned it seems), the decor in 50 years or more, you can't help but notice that everything looks "worn." The bathrooms are in really bad shape. They have hand sanitizer dispensers available in various places, but they are empty. They still check Covid vaccine status, but you have to go to the disgusting bathroom to wash your hands. Masks no longer required. It's confusing. The prices for food are outrageously expensive for what you get. I don't remember the prices seeming unreasonable for San Francisco during past visits. (It's been a few years.) I realize there are supply issues, and staffing issues and everything that has happened due to Covid, but they probably don't have many customers because the pricing is not fair to customers. (On a Friday night, the place wasn't even a quarter full.) The food itself tasted good. The service was excellent. It just wasn't worth the cost. For what we paid for 4 people, we could have fed a party of 10 or more at one of our local restaurants! We've been long time customers of this place. I don't think we will be returning.

So they now charge for the fantastic bread that used to come with you meal so I feel like this type of nickel and dime tact horribly tacky for a fine dining establishment. Service was good if a tad uneven and there was no recognition of the “special occasion.” What was a a must do in SF pre pandemic has turned into an “ maybe/maybe not” place post pandemic which frankly is SAD. Price are just as high if not higher so really you could do better and restore it back to its glory. Food was mostly hot, restrooms were absolutely destroyed and disgusting!

Stopped by for lunch and sat on outside patio. Great service, everything was presented promptly. Waitress recommended the lots of crab so my husband and I ordered it to share. Unfortunately we did not think the amount of crab we got was worth the money we paid small crab legs and not very meaty. Definitely did not feel overall worth the money. Would we go back , no.

We were celebrating my husbands birthday which I put on the reservation but nothing was acknowledged so that's a little disappointing. The restaurant was VERY cold. Needed to keep a coat on. It took a long time for the server to even check in on us. Once he did, however the service was great. Food was excellent.

We were very disappointed in the food. Six different entrees between the group and only one (Fish and Chips) was decent. Save your money and buy a hotdog from a vendor at the pier. I guarantee it's better than the food here.

Outstanding service from the moment we arrived until it was time to say, “Goodbye.” The waters were professional and always attentive. The food is unparalleled! I'm coming back again and again!
