The last time I had babka was in Miami few years ago at a renowned bakery called Zak the baker. Ever since then I get really excited about babka when I go to a baker but nothing has lived up to the hype till I tried this one at Braid.
I was really skeptical about trying the new baker with no storefront but it lived up to the hype. The freshly babka tasted amazing with gooey chocolate and hazelnuts in the cake. Definitely recommend if you're willing to pre order and wait for a couple of days which isn't convenient.

Got their chocolate hazelnut babka from Other Avenues. It was fluffy but also rich and dense with chocolate, with a soft golden top. Every bite was perfect. Best babka in memory.

The best babka I've ever had. Incredible texture, chocolate quality, and baking skills on presentation here. I would go so far to say this babka is an achievement on the levels of the great SF bakeries (Tartine, Jane, b. patisserie). As an at home chef, I know how hard making things to scale can be and I commend the owner for scaling something this special.
Had a picnic with the babka pie, cake, and rolls. Cardamom, chocolate and hazelnut, and pumpkin. My personal favorite was the chocolate but everyone in my group had a different favorite. You can't go wrong at this wonderful bakery!

Without hyperbole, Braid Bakery makes the best babka I’ve had in my life. It’s freshly made to your order, it’s light, it’s soft, it’s just a delightful loaf. I recommend the cinnamon and walnut one, but they also have chocolate.
They also have weekly Friday loafs, which are so light, but also hearty. The loaf is covered is a variety of interesting toppings that I’ve never had atop a challah before, but are certainly additive.
To order from Braid, you need to go online at least one day ahead; you’ll be picking it up from basically just a house, but there’s some signage. The babka loaf is worth the (light) hassle, I promise!

I’m one bite into the nut chocolate (classic) babka, and I can tell you incontrovertibly: It’s a mitzvah what they’ve done for San Francisco.

These babkas are legit! Make sure to order via website for ALL orders - this is a home-based operation and ONLY sells what you ordered the day
