I ordered a sandwich, thought it was a philly cheesesteak, the guy at the counter asked me what kind of cheese I wanted. Then when I got to the register my price was $1.50 more. I asked why and was told that cheese is extra. They pointed out the sign says philly steak. My problem is they didnt ask me IF I wanted cheese, they asked me what kind of cheese I wanted.
Always good for a quick lunch, good coffee, as and good service
I love this deli market. By far, the best sandwiches in S.F. I usually order ham and pastrami sandwich, but I also like to try something else on the menu. In the morning, I would get a donut, hot cocoa or coffee and grab a stool by the window. The cool part about this place is that you can dine-in. Nice atmosphere. Really a great place to eat, chill and carry a conversation with the regulars.
Buyer beware! Bought three seltzers and a pack of hi-chews and was charged $579.80. Cashier said the payment system wasn’t working and took my card over the counter to pay. Unfortunately, I didn’t ask for a receipt. Wanted to share so this doesn’t happen to anyone else.
Today i bought a Turkey and pastrami sandwich with all vegetables on it and it was delicious. I finishing 1/2 of the sandwich. This place has been around since I was a kid in high school San Francisco’s finest. I hope so.
Great place with amazing hours!

Food is good and fairly priced for S.F., sandwiches and great especially the fresh roasted turkey (Only Monday-Friday). Staff is usually great but can be lazy and if you don’t mind trailer park plastic chairs and wobbly tables this is 100% your spot. I should also say all the salads have always been and still are 100% my personal fav is a fruit salad, but the shrimp salad would be a close second! So don’t let the the trailer park themed seating area fool you, and I’ve eaten here countless times and the quality is top notch! And I’ll say I’m rather picky about delis.
Vegetarian options: Keep in mind the staff seems to really go out of their way to accommodate vegetarian requests I’ve noticed. Even if item may not be on be menu they usually seem to either come up with it or provide and second option which has worked out well for veggie friends, but once again this depends on who’s working in the deli.
Parking: SF street parking so don’t even think about leaving ANYTHING in your car especially in the neighborhood which is basically the Tenderloin. I can’t say that enough, if you want to keep it don’t leave anything in your car including the trunk!!!
Kid-friendliness: Kids will love it as they have large glass display cases they can poke at and make the glass dirty.
Wheelchair accessibility: All flat so it seems like a non issue

As I first moved into this area 2018, Bread & Butter has shown a graceful atmosphere. The Deli, sandwiches and egg croissant is excellent. Mike the owner is my cherished friend as a bonus. I highly recommend it amid the chaos of the Tenderloin district.

They overcharge you on purpose. Don’t shop here because they will rip you off. If you do shop here, ask for a receipt or ask for the prices of the items beforehand. They charged me $5 for an item that was listed at $3.50 and I only realized after I had left. Scummy
