Awesome food samosa soup is the best I have had. Tea leaf salad and fiery cauliflower is delicious. Must try but it’s become so expensive.

You cannot book, so be prepared to wait for up to an hour for a table at a busy time. However, don't let that put you off! We sat down straight away at the sister restaurant just up the road, although we joined the queue at the more famous one as soon as we realised our mistake. And once you give your name, be alert! We were standing chatting for quite a while after they called our name, although when we realised our mistake they quickly fitted us in to an inside table (there are outside tables on the street, too). The Burmese food is excellent, and unlike anything else I have tasted - a fusion between Thai and Indian, with it's own unique twist. It's an informal place, buzzing with energy and with a strong, pleasant spice-filled aroma hanging in the air. Check it out, if you get half a chance!

Even after all these years, Burma Superstar is still five starsin my book. It's also five stars in the book of my friend who just visited from Texas. Even after hitting up local hotspots like House of Prime Rib and Daeho, my friend said that his favorite meal was at Burma. For food, we got the Tea Leaf Salad (always a winner), Platha and Dip (also always good), Basil Chili Pork Belly (my friend said he fell in love with this dish; take that as you may), Nan Pia Dok (fantastic noodle texture), Coconut Rice (the best and fluffiest coconut rice in the biz), and Burmese-Style Curry Beef (the only miss of the night as the beef texture was a bit too dry). After adding a large 48 oz Mango Mule (only $36 for six servings of drink!), the total after tip was an acceptable $185. Not cheap but we had a decent amount of leftovers so it could have easily been cheaper if we just got the regular-sized portions instead of the large for the entrees. One could also just stick with water to lighten the bill but I have a hard time turning down alcohol when it's less than $15/drink these days...

WE LOVE BURMA SUPERSTAR! I've come here about four times since moving to the city last year, and I've brought different groups of friends each time. And each time, we've all had a wonderful experience, so this is definitely a staple dinner spot I'll continue bringing people to! We have always dined outdoors, even in the winter time. We have come on weekends and weeknights around the same time and rarely do we ever face a wait, but I noticed that after we are seated sometimes lines tend to form. So, I'd recommend preparing for that just in case. What we always order: the Tea Leaf Salad, the Mango Salad (my personal favorite!), the Mango Shrimp, the Dried Fried String Beans, the Coconut Rice (MUST HAVE!), the Lamb Curry, the Eggplant with Garlic Sauce, the Beef Samusas, and Thai Tea carafes (bonus: I honestly don't know any other place in the Bay that gives out CARAFES for Thai tea, so that's a +++ on my end! Also, their Thai tea isn't too sweet, it's balanced really well and I know they use half-and-half. I crave this often!). Simon has been our server all times (I think he's permanently stationed outside? Lol!), and I can never complain with his service. He does a really awesome job at introducing himself to our parties and letting us know his menu recommendations, along with making sure to accommodate any allergies or modifications. The bussers stationed outside are also always very efficient and friendly as well. Will always come back. Thanks for such a great experience every time!

One of my favorite go-to Burmese restaurant! Food is always super tasty. Staff is friendly but they are super busy so reservation is recommended!

Food delicious! Mojito mango was refreshing and tasty! The o my reason why I would give it 4 stars it's bc of service. We weren't done eating or drinking and basically got kicked out... however there was a table next to us that was still eating and they didn't say anything to them ‍

Multiple friends recommended this spot and I'm so glad I finally got to try it--the food is incredible! Great ambiance as well. The space is a little small (what SF restaurant space isn't?) so it fills up rather quickly--we got there right as it opened for lunch and there was a line waiting for tables to open up by the time we left. Vibe: great decor, quaint tables with enough spacing between groups that I didn't feel cramped. Noise levels were fine; I had no issues with holding a conversation and and hearing over the other guests Food: if I could only ever eat food from this restaurant I would die happy..the food was delicious. Very flavorful, plentiful options, and so rich in the best way possible. Service: our waitress was extremely kind and gave great recommendations for food options. She checked back to ensure we were happy with our food and had me feeling well taken care of. Excellent restaurant--I will definitely be back.

There's always a huge line and at least 40 min wait but let me tell you...it's worth it:) We waited for about 40 min on Thurs night and ordered their rainbow salad, oh noh kauswer soup, coconut rice, a tofu dish, fiery beef, mango mule. My favorite was the noodle soup and salad but everything was so delicious. Would come here again and order the same thing. The coconut rice was also so good. It was also nice as a desert. I get the hype now!

This is a review for a "too Good to Go" (App) pick up here on 5.25.22 I have been here a few times prior to this order and it is VERY popular, so what a deal to get to treat yourself to a surprise order. I love their tea leaf salad, and was kinda hoping it would be included. The Too Good to Go bags were not ready at the prescribed pick up time - a few of us did have to wait about 10 mins for our bags (No biggie). Inside my order was a delicious beef stew with potatoes. (A large/full order), and an order of fried bread with a yellow curry sauce. For $4.99 this was a great deal, so look out for them - they do sell out super fast.

This place is going to be as good as it gets in terms of Burmese food outside of Burma in my opinion even though it's not the most authentic Burmese food I've had in the US. Like most SF places, they do not take reservations, and it was about a 30 minute wait on a Sunday night after we put our name down. The tea leaf salad does not look very authentic in terms of presentation and texture, but the taste is close enough with most of the major ingredients present (peanuts, dried garlic slices and garlic oil, cabbage/lettuce, tomatoes, sesame seeds etc.). I had to order the mohinga since you cant go to any Burmese place without it. Despite it being the national dish of Burma, there are a million different ways to make mohinga. Here, it is a good mix of different meaty flavors and spices that are well absorbed by the noodles at the bottom of the bowl. The biggest letdown was the Shan noodles. I was looking forward to hot noodles in a steamy light chicken broth with just a bit of pickled veggies on the side. However the dish here is dry (which it's sometimes served that way), but the pickled stuff was too overwhelming and sour for me. The Nan Gyi Dok was solid, also very flavorful, lots of garlic, a bit of coconut, all went well with the chicken. Lastly, the chili lamb was very juicy, though personally I think they could up the spiciness a bit and tone down the oiliness. The explosion of flavor in each bite is unique here. Staff is respectful and attentive in frequently making sure we have water, cups, and utensils. I would come again in the future.

Waited only around 5-10 mins for a table on a saturday afternoon. We tried the tea leaf salad which was very flavorful, the cauliflower, which was really good, and then nan gyi dok which was pretty good and i liked the coconut curry flavor. The service was pretty good and everyone was friendly. Definitely would recommend!

I wish I could give this place 6 stars. This was one of the best meals I've had in my life. And that's coming from someone who lives in NYC where good food is in no shortage. TEA LEAF SALAD **** The star of the show honestly. You might look at this item and think oh I don't really care much for salad - well think again. The flavors in the salad and the combination of textures is immaculate. The soy nuts are the winner here and also the dressing that in combination create a dish that is gonna give you acidity, saltiness, sweetness, umami, brightness, as well as crunchiness from the soy nuts, delicate crunch from the tea leaves and lettuce, softness from the tomatoes and a nice little something extra with the sesame seeds. Words cannot describe how good this dressing was and the super nice waitress gave me a pro tip to save the bowl after I was done with the salad in order to use some of the dressing for my coconut rice and I am so happy she recommended that and I recommend that to you too. LYCHEE MOJITO Fresh, fragrant, real lychee bits at the bottom, with fresh mint and a good kick of liquor- how can you go wrong? I've had a few lychee Mojitos in my life this is probably one of the best ones CHICKEN CURRY DAHL Extremely tender chicken in bone, for a flavor packed curry sauce, consistency like a stew, with satisfyingly chewy chickpea bits that had me going for bite after bite even as I was continuing to chew the previous one I took. The food here was so good I did not leave a drop of curry nor a bit of chicken left on the bone and all I knew as I was eating was that I wanted more. When I'm back in town I will definitely want to hit this place up again and I would make a point to recommend this to anyone that I know!

Burma Love's lovely sister Burma Superstar is awesome. I hadn't come to the physical restaurant since the pandemic but ordered their tea leaf salad to stave off the craving of actually eating here in person. Recently we came here twice within a month. Although there is always a line during dinner, they are able to seat people quickly, and Inner Richmond is full of cafes and boba shops so the wait isn't so bad. Once you're seated, you must get their mango lassi. It is unfortunate that it is SO good because you will be unable to stop sipping it. To order: Tea Leaf Salad - is a staple of the Burma Superstar and Love restaurants. The fermented tea leaf dressing, the crunchy seed toppings and the vegetables coming together! It's the most satisfying salad I've ever had. Moh Hinga - if you like fish and like the classic sweet/sour flavor of Southeast Asian food, you will LOVE this. Sesame Chicken - it's orange chicken without the overly sweet and sour of panda express. Extremely delicious paired with coconut rice. Nan Pia Dok - crunchy onion pieces, with chewy noodles and coconut flavored soup? Who knew a boiled egg works so well with a dish like this? Yes! I don't want to wait longer in line, because I love this place but if you're looking for a reliable restaurant with banging food, do give this place a try.

Really good food!! Ordered the coconut curry noodles, toothpick lamb, eggplant with garlic, and tea leaf salad. My favorite was definitely the coconut curry noodles-- such amazing medley of different flavors! I don't usually like the taste of lamb but this dish was tender and seasoned very well. The eggplant garlic is not something I would order again because it wasn't anything that special. And the tea leaf salad was also just okay, I couldn't really taste a lot of the flavor, maybe needed more of the tea leaf dressing. I would note that portions are not very big for the prices. We shared 4 dishes among 3 people, finished everything, and had to have plenty of rice with the dishes to make it a full meal. Either way, delicious!
