I got the cake tasting box ($50) which comes with 5 slices all different flavors. I also got an additional seasonal flavor ($9). The brown butter lemon and the strawberry chocolate cakes were my favorite. The buttercream isn't overly sweet and the flavors worked so well together. Other flavors were good too but were your everyday flavors. The display of their cakes is beautiful. Only downside was some of the cakes were on the dryer side. I'm thinking because they're individually sliced and "open to air". I would definitely get the flavors unique to their shop again.

I had a great experience ordering from Butter&. I got an array of birthday cakes with different flavors. They looked beautiful, and everyone thought they were delicious. The service was friendly and helpful. And the cost was very reasonable.

The social media hype brought me here but was I was very disappointed upon getting there. The cakes look nowhere as good nor as large as they do online. The have the photo setup out in the store and it's a Hollywood production. The location is a pickup spot. Although they do sell slices, there is nowhere inside to enjoy it. The store sells its cakes as premium but they charge for bags, and use very ordinary packaging and don't provide the peripherals that other high end stores do like cutting knife, plates, and candles. I was in essence punished for buying too much. I got 3 slices and couldn't carry it all by hand. They charged me a $1 without telling me for a bag that couldn't fit everything. The top slice eventually fell out in the car and got damaged... The sesame cake had the flavor profile of sesame paste that is as good as the ones I've had in China but it's not worth the money and I prefer the OG recipe/food form.

Give me Butter& More Butter +'s; + Taste. Flavors are limited but they do them well. Sweet cream + roasted berries, brown butter + Meyer lemon, hazelnut + chocolate, and dark chocolate + Design. Refined elegance--nothing amateur about it. Even the children's cakes (Pooh's Adventure) shows fine art restraint. + Seasonal celebrations. Love that for Lunar New Year we had a black sesame and red bean option. For Valentine's we ordered a dark chocolate cake with strawberry buttercream in a vintage heart style. + Online ordering so easy + Pick up. Not a nightmare given their location doesn't have much traffic. + Cakes available onsite if you forget to order beforehand Less Butter& -'s: - Limited flavors. Wish there was something like coffee or espresso or salted caramel or others to choose from. - No customization but ask anyways--it doesn't hurt Overall this is my favorite bakery when I need to bring dessert for an event. Thus far I have had many guests seek out their own cakes from Butter&, which says everything.

Not only does Butter& have the best cake we've tasted in SF, their customer service is first rate. I accidentally reserved a cake for the wrong date but they were able to make it happen by making an extra one to pick-up on short notice and had quick communication. I will be returning regularly!

I've been a customer of butter& for a few years now and just realized I have never reviewed them. When I say they make the best cakes, I mean it. We've tried most of their flavors over the past few years but our favorite has got to be the sweet cream and roasted berries. The buttercream is silky smooth and the cake isn't overly sweet. A close second is either the brown butter and Meyer lemon or the matcha strawberry (which sadly isn't in their regular rotation). Aside from the delicious cakes, their service is top tier. For our wedding a couple of years ago, we of course went with butter& but when we ordered the tasting box, they accidentally forgot the vanilla bean sample and instead doubled up on a different flavor. I emailed them and asked if I could stop by to pick up just a small sample of the missing flavor and when I arrived they gave us a whole vanilla bean cake. I was stunned. I haven't been to their storefront yet but am sure it's fantastic and look forward to going one day. Whether you're looking for just a slice, a birthday cake or a wedding cake, I highly recommend butter&! You will not be disappointed.

Just absolutely incredible. One of the best cakes I've ever had in my life. It was universally enjoyed by everyone at a birthday party and there was not a single slice left.
Really solid, high quality cakes. The flavors (at least the ones i was able to try) are perhaps on the safer side. But they’re well-balanced, not too sweet.

Beautiful designs and delicious cake. Usually butter cream frosting is too sweet and overpowering for my taste, but Butter&'s cakes have the perfect flavor and sweetness balance! My first time trying Butter& cakes, I tried the brown butter Meyer lemon cake which I loved. For my partners birthday, I purchased the yuzu and lychee cake (seasonal flavor). Also soo good!

I went all out and ordered three HBD cakes : Expose-Birthday mini :9th and Larkin Chocolate, Expose-The Journey mini: Sweet Cream & Roasted Berries and Expose-Floral mini: Brown butter & Meyer lemon , all gluten-free and decorated spectacularly well, they were beautiful! Easy online ordering process and delivery was prompt. It was delivered with extra care for sure and packaged extremely well which I truly appreciated. Clear instructions on how to take care of your cake. Our favorites were: Sweet Cream & Roasted Berries and the Brown Butter & Meyer lemon. Chocolate was just ok for us.

Placed an order online for the wedding tasting box. Online ordering was quick and easy. All the information I was looking for was posted and easily accessible. I received a confirmation text the day before reminding me of the order and pick up time. When I went to pick up, the box was wrapped beautifully and ready to go! My partner and I enjoyed being able to taste and decide from the comfort of our own home. The cakes were all very delicious and moist. We will definitely be using this bakery for our wedding cake. Very organized, clean location and great customer service.
