Surprise root canal procedure (the wife's) at the dentist next door meant I was stranded in the city, early. No time for coffee or a snack at home. So while wifey was in the chair, I was free to search out a cappuccino and breakfast. Cafe Encore totally scored. Excellent cappuccino, tasty bagel sandwich, charming/delightful owner. Highly recommended. Re the comments here about the longish wait, I say slow down, enjoy the ride. You won't regret Cafe Encore.

I love Cafe Encore. First, the name is cute, since it's surrounded by SF's finest theaters. Lydia is so stinkin' nice and friendly! She always gives my pup a little bacon or chicken snack. They have delicious coffee!! Their pastry cabinet is like a museum of fine art!!! If only there were vegan ones. They do offer a few vegan snacks at the register, which are tasty and convenient, especially on the go. It's in a great location if you're taking a stroll to Union Square and want to avoid basic, soulless Lamebucks coffee. Whenever I'm in the neighborhood, I love stopping by for a cup and a chat. If you're the type to treat yourself and/or a friend with coffee and a fancy pastry, Cafe Encore is a must!!!

Came here because reviews raved about the pastries/bagels, only to find that they don't make them fresh in house. On a Thursday morning, everything had been bought from somewhere else the day prior. This is a very small operation with only one employee, so the service was incredibly slow. We got two sandwiches and two smoothies, and the wait for the sandwiches was a little long (about what we expected given the setup) but the smoothies took probably another 20 minutes. Orders after us were prepared before the smoothies got started, which I'm sure is part of the system to keep that kitchen moving, but it was really unacceptable to be done eating and still waiting. The sandwiches were good, but not special. Also FYI, all the bacon is turkey bacon. All in all disappointed and wish we'd picked another spot for breakfast.
Great little café for a delicious breakfast. We stopped by for breakfast bagels, and they were fantastic — fresh, flavorful, and really well made. The café opens early, which is super convenient, especially since it’s close to Union Square and easy to reach.
I had the salmon bagel with onions, capers, cucumbers, and cream cheese, and it was incredibly tasty — the perfect start to the day. Whether you want a quick snack or a proper breakfast, this spot is definitely worth a visit.

This is my favorite café in the city. The workers are very accommodating/welcoming and they really make good coffee here. Drinks are not too sweet. I've been coming here for over 5 years now and will continue!

Cafe Encore is an absolute gem! From the moment you walk in, the warm aroma of freshly baked pastries and rich coffee fills the air. The pastries are always fresh, flaky, and full of flavor — you can tell they’re made with care and quality ingredients. Whether it’s a buttery croissant, a fruit tart, or one of their daily specials, everything tastes homemade and delicious.
The coffee is just as impressive — smooth, bold, and perfectly brewed every time. They offer a great variety of espresso drinks, and the baristas really know their craft. It’s the kind of place where your latte art actually makes you smile before the first sip.

Café Encore is such a great find near Union Square! The staff here are super efficient and friendly — they handle the busy downtown rush so smoothly. Their sandwiches are great — fresh, flavorful, and made with care. The breakfast items are also delicious, and the coffee is amazing. The dark roast beans remind me of Paris — rich, bold, and full of flavor. Definitely one of the best spots in San Francisco for a great breakfast and coffee!

Two ladies in front of me ordered a double cappuccino and an americano. After them, I ordered a latte and a cappuccino but I only got the latte. Lady was rude saying someone else took my cappuccino when in fact she didn’t make it. Instead of stopping to make it right she skipped me rolling her eyes. Terrible experience you are better off somewhere else.
