Great coffee and atmosphere in North Beach. Try the caffe africano served in a short glass. I miss the old school folding metal chairs out front but the inside hasn't changed thankfully.

Why is Caffe Trieste famous is a question often asked by people. Well, right now they’re on TV for the air time on Goliath. Great!

We love the owners! True authentic individuals! Someone I would leave the keys to my house, car, safe deposit box with! And THE BEST COFFEE!!!!
An atmosphere from the old times in Italy. And a functioning jukebox!

Judgmental and rude service. Man behind the counter radiated “condescending gay guy and high-school mean-girl” energy, if that makes sense to you.
Another way of putting it would be that it seemed my very existence disgusted the man.
Honestly never experienced anything quite like it. I was nothing but meek and respectful to the man behind the counter, and I was met with obvious judgment and clear disdain. For what, I wouldn’t be able to tell you.
Being myself half Filipino, part of me thinks it could have been racism. I’m a quiet, respectful, and well spoken person, who always takes into consideration my place as a guest when traveling.
Being from a rural, northern New England town, I fully understand the desire to meet outsiders and tourists with a cold wall of indifference before warming up, but this was something different, I promise you.
At the end of the day, what bothers me most is that I couldn’t give you one reason I was treated the way I was except prejudice. It’s such a shame given the beauty of the Catholic Church right across the street, and charm of the neighborhood.
Oh well! Lots of warm and beautiful spots around, and I suggest looking into any of them after wasting my evening here.
Excellent local vibe coffee shop. Delicous Italian espresso.

Really cute cafe with great pastry options (especially the cakes). Coffee and cheesecake were so good. Also loved the way they served the coffee in these glasses.
We love the coffee and pastries and stop by eveytime we are in the area. Its definitely worth the wait in line. They only accept cash!

To the owner/management of Caffe Trieste: the espresso was good, but my daughter and I were almost charged $13 for a $3 espresso and a $5 coffee. The cashier, a shirt, stocky guy who was extremely rude and aggressive, insisted the extra charge was “taxes” and refused to explain or correct it until we raised the issue with the (very professional) barista, at which point the total was suddenly adjusted. In a cash-only system with no receipt, this looks like deliberate overcharging and harms both customers and the café’s long-standing reputation. I strongly urge you to review this employee and your cash-handling practices, because this historic place deserves better.
