Castagnola's is a decent place for lunch or dinner whenever you visit the city San Francisco.

The food was great. My wife stated this place needs an upgrade... Her meal was awesome as well as mine but we both agree an update is due. Start with the carpet...

Everyone here was so nice! They went out of their way to make us happy - even specifically opened the patio for us. Their happy hour is great!!!

Horrible place to go to. On Saturday 2/29/20 at 12:30pm I was in town on vacation and had my 3 year old who had to use the restroom. I walked in with my 3 year old and asked to use the restroom. The waiter ( older Hispanic gentlemen with glasses) greeted me as I walked in and stated sure as long as you donate money and pointed to a box with money. I was like really. I walked out and went next door to to Lous fish shack who greeted me and my 3 year old and let him use the restroom. Did not even hesitate to turn us away. I went back to Castagnola's and saw the same waiter and asked for his name. He refused to give me his name and ignored my request. So if you have a choice go next door to Lou's fish shack. At least your getting treated with respect and they are considerate of your needs.

So basically, I had told my wife to sit at the bar and I was going to use the restroom. THE OWNER and MANAGER of the restaurant told me I can't use the restroom because many people come and go and don't order anything. My wife and I have never been treated with such disrespect and totally felt like we weren't good enough for that place. We went next door to LOU's FRESH SHACK and had supreme customer service and had no complaint. My wife cried at the table and I calmed her down. What made her calm was LOU's wings. I highly recommend NOT going here.

Overall an okay dining experience. The food is serviceable and the staff friendly. The location means you'll pay more than the food is worth, but that's to be expected. The restaurant is relatively clean, but is in need of updating. I don't regret my meal there, but it won't be a destination for my family when we return.

I wasn't sure about writing this review but I couldn't help it. We came here last Saturday for dinner. It was about 7pm and we were seated quickly since the restaurant only had 1 other person in it. I had to use the bathroom and it was a flashback to the 80's. Everything inside was outdated, some sinks didn't work, no toilet paper, hand soap from the dollar tree. Not why you would expect from what initially seemed to be a nicer restaurant. We then ordered our food. While sitting chatting with friends I saw something run across the ground next to our table. My girlfriend went and looked and found a family of mice roaming around the dinning room. We immediately got up and left and told the manager why we were leaving and he apologized and said he has been trying to get rid of them.... It left a pretty sour taste and we lost our appetite. We were all scared if they are just roaming in the dinning room what was in the kitchen with all the food. Unfortunately we will never return here.

This place is straight trash. It will entice you with their decent happy hour specials to get you inside the place. There are no happy hour appetizers. My daughter and I went 2/20/20 around 5. We ordered calamari and it was brought to us cold and it was $17. the server was pretty much ignoring my daughter and I the entire time. We sat outside on the patio and he never checked on us once. We had to go inside and find him to ask for anything, Even though the restaurant was completely dead. My daughter accidentally knocked over her sprite and he brought me a towel to clean it up. Then proceeded to walk away. I had to tell him "that was a sprite" to cue him to bring her another. He never cleared our glasses, plates, wet napkins from the spill. He brought the check without even asking us if we wanted anything else. Waited a year for him to come get my card. I tipped him $2. He's lucky he got that. He came and collected the check billfold and had the nerve to open it up and look at his tip. Still, hadn't removed anything from the table at this point then walked away with it. We went to Aliotos to eat after that. The server Carlos was amazing and so sweet and attentive. He got a $16 dollar tip.

It was just OK, bartender was not very friendly and the crap salad was just run of the mill. The bottled beer was not very cold.

Waiter sat us promptly in an enormous empty dining room at dinner time. I ventured upstairs to use the bathroom and texted my wife from the bathroom we need to get the hell out of here. We never made it to the food. Restaurant is seriously in need of an update. The smell from the carpet and the condition of the inside is unacceptable. If this is what they show to the public I can only imagine what the kitchen looks like. Based other reviews I've read about the food we made the right choice.

The best reason to go to Castagnola's is on Tuesdays from 5 to 8 pm for the spectacular jazz in the lounge. These are some of the best players in the Bay Area. It's usually a quartet or quintet with a dynamic vocalist. And there's no cover charge. People watch and enjoy the music. My friends and I like to find these unsuspecting places that have really good jazz. It's an endangered species and an American art form.

We had lunch at this place while were walking down pier 39. Restaurant seem out dated but the food was good. Hubby had a steak and I had a burger. They were good.

This place is my preferable place. Of all restaurants I know I favor it most. I always suggests to my friends to go to visit this place. when I feel like having a good dinner, this place comes straight to my head. extremely good and all sorts of food and a rich cuisine.trained team, and good ambience. Also important, the bill is affordable. I tell about this spot with great pleasure.

My wife and I got engaged at castagnola's a few years ago. Then last April, we re-walked the same exact day with our family, and surprised our 4 boys, blended family, with a surprise wedding at the restaurant. It was amazing. We couldn't ask for anything more. The staff were amazing and they treated our family, like family. We are forever grateful. Thank you so much

Nice view and delicious fish and chips with a clam chowder bowl. Decor a bit dated and slight old smell. Sucks that bathrooms are on second floor.
