Such a fun and friendly atmosphere. Food is great.
Restaurant with good ambience, classy decor and beautiful bold art on the walls. The staff is extremely attentive and friendly. But most importantly the food was fantastic. The Vegetarian Coconut Curry and the Paneer Tiki Masala are AMAZING. We literally licked our plates clean. (No shame!).
The food at this place is delicious. Everything is so flavorful the spices jump out in your mouth!!! The Nepalese food is the best !!
We also had a Dosa and Samosa Chaat ..
The sauces were a home run ! Each sauce more flavorful than the next … eat here if you visit San francisco- it’s in the Castro !
Anu - was our server ! So friendly and welcoming! Helpful w/ suggestions!
Himanshu the manager checked on us many times ! A gem for sure !!!
This is our favorite! The uttapam, the dosas, gluten free garlic naan, and the coconut curry are amazing. And Anu was a super kind and helpful server!
Love this place - delicious food every time, lovely staff, and love that it’s open late. Also their beer that they brew in house is super delicious and unique! My partner and I have been going here since we moved to the neighborhood last year, we take family and friends here, we recommend it to anyone looking for good Indian food in sf. Castro gem!🪷
Great place for vegan options
We eat a lot of Indian food at home in Los Angeles and whenever we travel to the UK and we loved this place. We had a long weekend in San Francisco and liked this restaurant so much we went back for a second time. There are some unique dishes on the menu which we were excited to try (the "65", the Momos and the Street Curries). One of us is gluten-free and the GF garlic naan was fantastic - soft and fluffy! A great cocktail list, and they brew their own house beer right there in the middle of the restaurant. The place was busy both nights but we never felt rushed. We wish this restaurant was on our doorstep!
The food lacked flavor, and the in-house brewed beer was pungent .despite the empty restaurant ,order wasn't fulfilled correctly .would not recommend .
I had a reservation she sat two people without a reservation in the preferred seating away from the cold window. The food was very mediocre for Indian, lacked salt and any form of remembrance. The chicken tandoor had a Chinese sweet and sour flavor! Was not appealing. Service was between 3 people who could not really "read the table" if you know what I mean. Would I try it again, Yes, I'll always give it a second chance, but I'll wait to see if the service is different next time.
I'd never been there and was blown away by the food! It was so delicious...all the dishes we ordered. My friend is vegetarian and there are endless choices. We ate outside so I couldn't really address the “noise” rating adequately

We were there for lunch and there were only two other tables occupied. Even so, the waiter NEVER checked in with us unless we waived frantically at him to come over. For our initial drinks. To place our order. To clear our plates. To get the check. To pay the check. Every. Single. Time. This had also happened to me here a week earlier with a different waitress. Really frustrating. Finally: the prices. Almost impossible to have lunch here for less than $32.00 and that's too much for a workday lunch. I wish they had a lunch buffet.
Castro Indian Restaurant and Bar exceeded all expectations! The cocktails were expertly crafted by a talented bartender, each one bursting with unique flavors. Our server was fantastic—attentive, warm, and knowledgeable, adding a personal touch to the evening. The ambiance was both cozy and chic, making it the perfect spot for a night out. Can’t wait to return for more delicious food and amazing service!

Honestly, everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. Familiar Indian flavors with ample other options to try out. You can tell it’s the freshest of ingredients. Lamb curry dish - so tender and with a healthy kick of heat. The owners name literary translated means “happy” which is evident she pours that into her dishes. Don’t forget to try the blonde ale that is microbrewed right on site. Ice cold and full of depth. I will make this a staple stop whenever visiting SF from now on!
