Enjoyed and would come back, especially during happy hour! You can get 3 small dishes for $20 during happy hour. We got the 1/2 cha-ya roll, Sansai udon bowl, and agedashi tofu. All of it was great. My friend and I admired all the paper lanterns hanging around us. It was a quiet, small, calm atmosphere.

One of my favorite restaurants in SF and I'm not even vegetarian. Lot of love goes into each dish.
I already moved out of the Bay Area but I’m still miss your food so much. It’s amazing how your dishes can make me feel so warm and satisfied.

2025 year review - I am glad I had a chance to revisit Cha-ya after 7 long years to try their Noodles. Every dish I had in 2025 was well balanced, nutritious and not too heavy!
2018(7 years ago) - Amazing Vegetarian Japanese restaurant. Loved everything we had . I'll visit back to have the noodles. :) highly recommend it.
Really delicious - as a non-vegetarian this really expanded my definition of sushi. Great spot!

I loved it. I love Japanese food but it’s often hard to find kosher options. You can’t go wrong when going vegan!

You can't go wrong here. (2 people)—Start off with a mushroom soup with udon (share it), then order edamame (also share). Get a couple of rolls and ask the eldest lady to recommend a sake based on your preferences if you want sake ;-). Their house water is fine. The meal will run about 90 bucks. Give them a good tip! FYI: the portions are filling. Quality ingredients + well-prepared offerings. Nice place to chat as well—clientele is usually quite civilized. They’ve been there 20 years.

Not mind-blowing, but solid place with a lot of healthy options, peaceful atmosphere, and fully plant-based!
