We came into Chalos and ordered an empanada and churro. We were told it would take five minutes, which was fine. While waiting, I started eating a small snack I brought with me. The staff asked me not to eat outside food, which I completely understand and respected.

However, what really rubbed me the wrong way was that a few minutes later, the same staff member told me I had to physically remove my food from the table because it was still visible—even though I had stopped eating it. That felt excessive and unnecessarily rude, especially since we were already paying customers waiting for our order. It left a bad taste in my mouth (no pun intended), and I won’t be coming back.

It can’t be understated, the food (and coffee) here are phenomenal. It’s like I was transported back to my childhood with my mother’s cooking. Nothing is dry, everything is delicious, and service is amazing. The owners and staff are very attentive, quick, and open to chatting. Can’t beat the service nor quality of food , especially for the affordable price. This is a must visit spot!!! Highly recommend the vanilla cold brew…I had two.

Ecuadorian that lived for a short time in San Francisco ☝🏻 I got to meet Chalo, who is an amazing person, he makes the place really cozy and welcoming for any Latino. Used to go with someone special I cherished memories with. Him, being born and raised in California, loved the place and the vibe. He totally felt right at home as well, no doubt. Great food, I’m missing the dulce de leche latte. Can’t wait to go visit again.

The food was good but the service was great. You could tell the guy who handled the front end cared for his customers and took pride in the food he served.

The breakfast burrito is incredibly greasy and nasty//Worst burrito ever//Paid $15 for burrito with tater tots, cheese, pico de gallo, and added avocado for $2 that I could not seem to find inside but a pinch of a drop//After showing staff burrito with no avocado, he advised, "we've never had an issue before," while looking at burrito and clearly not seeing it//Then staff asks cook if she put avo inside, which she replied, "yes"//1st and last visit for me//Customer service is everything to me alongside of great eats//This is neither//Same burrito I paid $15 for and my sis paid $10//SMH, both no es bueno//

I am Argentine and have tried every empanada spot in the Bay Area. These are by far the most authentic empanadas I have tried outside of Argentina. The dough is homemade and fantastic, the fillings are just like I make them at home. I used to go through the work of making them at home, but after going to Chalos I don’t do that anymore. All the delicious taste without any of the kitchen clean up!! Highly recommend Chalos if you are looking for some delicious Argentine empanadas!
