I love rooftops, and Charmaine’s definitely has a few things going for it — great views of the San Francisco skyline, good music, and trendy décor. It’s got the vibe, but overall, I found it pretty overrated and leaning toward tourist trap territory.

A few things to note before you go:
•   You have to pay $21 per person in advance just to make a reservation.
•   It’s located right on the edge of the Tenderloin, so street parking is basically a no-go. The hotel (Proper Hotel) does offer valet parking — for $60.
•   Drinks run around $20 each, which I wouldn’t mind if the service matched the prices.

Unfortunately, the service was terrible. Our server was hard to track down, didn’t really engage with us, and overall felt checked out. The hostess had a bit of an attitude too — not exactly welcoming.

It’s a place to go once for the view, but don’t expect much beyond the aesthetics And gram post.

The last time I had a drink in an old peoples home with my Grandma we had a G&T and it didn’t cost me $30

Charmaine rooftop in San Francisco has amazing views. That is really the main highlight. The outdoor seating is great, especially on a nice day. The whole place has a cool vibe and looks good. Service was solid too. Staff were friendly and quick.

The food was okay. Not bad, but nothing I would go out of my way for. It is definitely more of a spot for the atmosphere than for the food.

One downside during my visit was that two sketchy people showed up smelling strongly of weed. They were not just chilling either. They kept running around the rooftop and making it hard to relax. It completely threw off the mood for a while. That smell was way too much and kind of ruined the experience at that point.

Overall, I still like the rooftop and would go back for the views and the setting. Just hope the crowd is better next time.

Way too cold - they need to close the doors. Very uncomfortable. Food is good as is service but wear your winter coat

Food and drinks were just ok (especially considering the price point). Wouldn't highly recommend.

The menu has been revamped and shrunken. No more Impossible burger or sandwich. There are French fries, an eggplant dip, and a vegetable brochette: no proteins, no full meal. The drinks are still good though.

Fish tacos were over breaded I couldn’t really take a decent bite of it i had to give the rest to my coworkers to finish ..cause they made the outside of the fish to thick when they cooked it but everything else was delicious

Parking: We didn’t have to walk down the hill too far but we still ended up having to pay a garage for parking an walk about a block in an a 1/2 to the hotel then ended up waiting for the concierge to come back to his both an get my ID then another gentleman walked us to the elevator , it was a couple people before an after me waiting to get in

Went with a larger group of 12ish people for a birthday.

Our server was excellent, very attentive, nailed all the orders, and easily handled our group’s manic energy. He read the room perfectly, and was present but not too present. Excellent skill shown from him.

The food was slightly above “meh” level. Very small plates, overpriced, just somewhat tasty. I certainly wouldn’t go there for the food.

Atmosphere was cool. Obviously it’s a rooftop patio so vibes were good, but it was a little dark even with the fire pit. No big though. I did find it a bit annoying that we had to wait in line on the sidewalk to get in when we had a reservation. It was also agony trying to get through on the phone, in that they literally never picked up the 6 times I called them to setup the reservation. They’re better over email though.

Overall, I would definitely recommend it, but it’s also definitely not “San Francisco’s Sexiest Rooftop Bar” as they claim.

The hostess took someone else’s order first and they sat down after us. She never came to check on us.

Limited food selection, but we came for the view and drinks. Beautiful view of the city. I wouldn’t want to be walking around in the Tenderloin. Pro tip: make a reservation.

I got a notification at 14:45 that my reservation that evening had been cancelled by the restaurant because of an event. The restaurant would have known about the event way in advance, so to only be given a few hours notice of a cancellation when we had this table booked 2 months in advance is very disappointing and poorly managed. We were offered a date change with a discount off the bill, which, had we been given enough notice we could’ve moved the reservation to another day of our trip. However this was our last evening in San Francisco so we were left with no choice but trying to make alternative arrangements at short notice. Additionally I received no response to my email.
