French onion soup was out of this world. Burger and fries were forgettable and borderline offensive for $20.

Chez Maman is a tiny restaurant on the corner of Hayes and Gough. It is a cute French place that makes me wish my mom could craft eggs benedict like they do. Delicious! I rarely ever order anything else.

This place is NOT a French restaurant. It’s a modern Mexican American - European fusion.
There was feces on one of the tables which caused us to move to a separate table. I discreetly pointed it out to a waiter and he did absolutely nothing about it. In fact he sat another lovely couple there right after we were moved.
The (appetizer) food we had tasted awful, which did not make me want to order an entree. The atmosphere is cramped and poorly decorated. It’s tacky in there.
I cannot state firmly enough, do not eat here. Their hygienic practices here are gross.

Chez Maman is one of those spots that just gets it right. The pork chop I had was honestly delicious—cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. The vibe is super homey and cozy, and the staff is warm and on point, making sure everything flows smoothly. It’s a chill yet elevated place to enjoy a good meal. Definitely a win.

Cozy and friendly corner spot with crepes, mussels and burgers. We enjoyed the evening out but I have eaten better French food. The onion soup was almost cold, too heavy on the cheese, too light on pepper. The pork chops are a bit dry, the sprouts lacked flavor. It's good, not superb.

Too noisy inside and has street noise outside but the food is so typically French Bistro, it is a must return.

My endive salad was appallingly bad. So much so that I took a picture and am suggesting you don’t order it. It was an ugly jumble, without any distinction (oh thank god there’s a walnut!) I had to search for the pears which were strangely cubed. I guess I expected an appetizing display: sliced pears, whole pieces of endive, discernible crumbles of Roquefort. Maybe they made the best of crappy produce by cutting it all up? I don’t know why they served this!
My mushroom soup was good and my husband’s frisée salad was too. His ham and cheese crepe was ok.

We went there for brunch. We liked the onion soup but we were not that happy with our breakfast experience unfortunately.

escargot sauce was about 60% water and severly lacking in garlic ordered the new yourk prime and the sauce was very good however steak was drastically overcooked ordered rare got something around medium and very tough we used to come here often a few years ago and the food was always excellent however this time the food was subpar lacking in flavor and almost all overcooked writing this review in hopes of something changing as this used to be an outstanding restaurant however prices have remained the same and the quality of the food has greatly diminished.

French onion soup was good, a bit too few onions/soup and too much bread.
Burger was excellent, according to my son.
Pork chop was not what I had hoped. 50% very tough, 25% moderately tough and 25% tender. I'm glad I still have my teeth or I would have been in trouble.
Accompaniments were very good.
We were sat outside on Hayes under a very partial heat lamp that was insufficient to keep us warm. Get another heater to make that space warm.
The blended Zin had little body or flavor and, was served in a tiny inappropriate glass you could buy from IKEA.
I did like the fact that they built the SF surcharge into their prices. Now that's what every restaurant should do, take responsibility for their employees instead of relying on nickel and diming service charges. If I want that, I'll take a flight somewhere.

Great go to restaurant for lunch or dinner. If you are looking for a restaurant that serves Potatoes Gratin, then look no further than Chez Maman West. I am so glad I came into Chez Maman West for a quick lunch.

The servant is rude and it is not worth the experience…if you have a group of friends, better try other brunch places

Very good wait staff. They were the high point of a very disappointing meal. Start with a dirty plate. Progress to a crepe that was dry and lacked real buckwheat flavor. Finish up with a hamburger that was supposed to be medium and showed up clearly rare with the Roquefort cheese being virtually liquid and almost impossibly messy. The 4.4 rating, based on our experience, is clearly undeserved!
