Really good bagels, not exactly NYC style, they're their own delicious thing. PRO TIP: preorder from his online shop in the week that leads up to skip the line.Highly recommend the trout rillete when he's doing sandwiches. The proprietor is also just a great guy and writes an amusing/heartfelt weekly newsletter about the tribulations of a baker.

Seems like they've changed up their model a bit in the past month or so, and I did not enjoy the experience. Now food does not come toasted or with a spread, but you can buy a tub of cream cheese and go spread it at home. I understand the desire to shorten wait times, but then again the owner was taking their time chatting with people in front of us even after they had already gotten their orders. Anyway onto the food: While the everything bagel was alright, the dog log with onion bagel was disappointing. Like another reviewer said, the onions were burnt. The bagel part of my dog log was thinner than I expected and super hard to bite through, even though the meat was good. Again, possibly an issue now that they don't toast the food for you -- and I even tried to toast the dog log on my stove 'cause it's not like you can fit it in a toaster. I had high hopes based on all the 5-star reviews, but was not worth the 25-30 minutes spent in line to get cold food with no spread options.

Bagels are amazing with just the right crunch! The salt bagel is my favorite, and if you order ahead, you can skip the line!

I’ve recently moved to SF from the east coast and have high expectations for my bagels; thankfully, Chicken Dog meets those expectations. Bagels have a great flavor, texture, and consistency. Lookin forward to making this a typical Saturday stop.

I really enjoy the mission behind this company. A one man show only opened one day a week & serving up quality, local products. We ordered a variety of bagels including everything, plain, onion, poppy, & cinnamon raisin. We accompanied them with chive cream cheese as well as a babka. The bagels are crusty & chewy with a great amount of seasoning on all of them. The babka was crunchy, sweet, & chewy. The ambiance is very quaint & the service is excellent. My partner had a great conversation with the owner when we picked up our order. If you are looking for a good bagel on a Saturday morning (because they are only open one day a week) then this is definitely a spot to check out in the city.

Correction to previous post! After my previous review, Alex, the owner, responded promptly and informed me that the Mission st. Bagel/pizza shop was an old pop up kitchen he used before. ( Apple Maps has the old address) He has since moved to a new kitchen in Cortland ave. I have been to the wrong place and he was kind enough to arrange to pick up my original order. The bagels are EXCELLENT, with nice chew and better than the other place. Definitely worth the price .

came here around 10:30am on a saturday and they were already out of most bagels types. i got an everything bagel; the crust was very chewy and it seemed a little stale. they only sold cream cheese in tubs and weren't making any sandwiches that day contrary to what it said on their website.there's no seating nearby so it's to-go only, and if there's more than one person in line then you might have to wait outside.the bagel wasn't bad but it fell short of the high bar set by boichik/laundromat/hella bagels. i would love to give them another chance but don't want to risk driving all the way out just to find that they don't have sandwiches again.

These are simply THE BEST BAGELS. I’ve lived in NYC, and turns out, you need to come to Bernal Heights, SF on a Friday or Saturday if you want to have the best bagel this county (world?) has to offer. A distinct bagel with a beautiful boiled crust, a soft chew inside, and that slight tang of sourdough. Alex is unapologetic in creating a bagel that stands out while still adhering to tradition. Get these bagels… if they aren’t already sold out!

Best bagels in SF hands down. Line can be crazy long but if you are a bagel lover it is worth the wait.
