Overall good vibes, but the food was a miss. I was so excited for this place, but unfortunately they have a lot to improve on.
Pros
- Adorable space
- Friendly service
- Blooming onion was fun and tasted nice
Cons
- Food seemed low quality. I got the fried chicken, and the meat itself had the texture of tofu. This should've been the highlight!! It's the name of the restaurant!
- Toast had no butter or jam or anything, just kinda thrown on the plate
- Ordering was counter service, though they offered dessert at the table which doesn't really go with the diner vibe.

Truly a brilliant experience. Food was phenomenal. So unique for San Fran but will soon be a staple. Lovely place. Worth the wait (if there is one, depends on time).

Loved getting dinner here! My favorite dish was the fried chicken with gravy (with house hot sauces on the side if you like spice!). The blooming onion was delicious, would recommend getting it for a group versus just 2 people because it’s a lot! Got a slice of chocolate cake to go and it was so good. Def would come back with a group for brunch to try more things!

Such a good spot. I would put that white gravy on everything if I could.

I really really wanted to like this place. I had discovered this spot on instagram and was drawn to the photos of food that looked delicious. The owners and staff also seemed really cool. My wife and I shared the chicken fried chicken with bay sauce, hash brown and Pullman toast. This seemed like an obvious choice given the name of the restaurant. The chicken was super salty and soggy. The hash brown was a perfect circle (like a hockey puck) which probably means it was frozen. It was bland and unexciting. The toast was also flavorless. This was a very bland and disappointing $24 dish (dish would have been $30 to add an egg). My sister ordered the chicken fried chicken with Memphis sauce and mashed potatoes. Her food tasted old. We all shared the salted cod pancake which was just too heavy and rich. Fun concept but this was also very salty. We also shared the market salad which was not horrible but also very underwhelming for an $18 salad. We had tried to order the blooming onion, the Richie chocolate cake and the pudding but were told they were out of all items which was also disappointing. We ended up sharing the sweet potato pie which was the only thing we all enjoyed, it was a yummy mix of sweet and savory. Over all, our main dishes tasted like they were trying to save money and things were thrown together without much thought. The prices don't match the quality at all. I sadly wouldn't return. 2 stars because our server was nice and they played cool music. If you want good chicken nearby, go to pollo campero up the street or Old Jerusalem (order the Mousakhan).

Ah geeeez I really wanted to like this place and I believe in Seth and the team but this just missed the mark in several ways for us. We were one of two tables at the time and our food came out cold. Chicken was soggy, as was the cold toast that was placed atop the mashed potatoes - therefore making the toast soggy as well. Two raw pieces of radicchio placed upon the cold toast which had been placed upon the cold mashed potatoes seemed to be an odd choice. We ordered our meals with “the bay” sauce - which features Fresno chiles but ours was served with dried up jalapeños (like when you cut up jalapeños and leave them out all day). Mashed potatoes were the best part. $80 for three plates, no drinks.
Remodel is nice but about half the lights in the place were flickering during our whole meal.
Maybe I’ll head back once the kinks are worked out but all of us left quite disappointed.

New best Cesare Salad in the city. If you like black garlic, it is a must.
Best blooming onion in the city.
The medium ribeye was well done. Would request it bloody/rare if ordering it again.

Quite disappointed with this place. I really wanted to like it, but...
The good first: the environment - the place is really cool! It looks great, really nice, 70s vibe, they put a lot of effort into the style and look and it works. The service - friendly. Not super competent, but smiling, welcoming and friendly. The chocolate cake - this is the best thing we ate (finally something good!).
The not-so-good: the food - which is kinda key for a restaurant. Everything was super salty, the chicken was really disappointing, it tasted like it was wrapped in mochi and the batter did not add any texture (i had the sauce on the side), it was not very crunchy, all i could feel was the weird spongy mochi texture on the chicken. I love mochi, but not on chicken. The hash brown (singular) was a smallish round whatever piece of potato, not really warm, crunchy, no added value. My friend had a large serving of mashed potato that was good, and i had the kid's menu serving of has brown. The biscuit: dry, cold, hard, inedible; the toast was soggy. Finally, we both got the sausage sauce, it was ok, but very peppery.

I wouldn't have any problems with these prices if the food was good. It's expensive to run a restaurant in the city. It's also true that there are many other options in the neighborhood for breakfast food - all of which are tastier, cheaper, or both.
Some items (pancakes, hash browns) were overcooked to the point of being scorched, and the texture of the chicken-fried items was all wrong. A miss for me.

Everything was either: 1) familiar yet with a surprising and delicious twist, 2) the canonical ideal of that food, 3) novel, thought provoking, and super tasty, or 4) some combination of the above.
We ordered: smoked ribeye, scrambled eggs, side of sausage gravy (excellent move, we got an extra), chicken fried steak with the oyster/chili sauce (fantastic), collard greens (best I’ve ever had. Surprising depth and freshness - you could taste the greens), Caesar salad (love the black garlic in lieu of anchovy for umami), and the sweet potato pie (a work of art, especially the crust and black pepper crumble.)

Excellent addition to the Mission district. Food and service are stellar, vibe is colorful and fun. Loved the Bloomin' Onion and Chicken Fried Chicken, and chocolate cake for desert (oh and don't forget your sweet tea!)

Fun new spot in the mission, we went for brunch so didn’t try their namesake dishes yet. We went at an off hours and service was friendly but slow, and dishes came out as they were ready (we were warned when ordering) which was fine since we were sharing and sampling everything. The maitake mushroom was amazing and the cheddar mashed potatoes were excellent with their home made green chili oil. The grits are covered in the green chili oil and ended up being too oily. But the red chili oil is amazing on eggs. Pie was good, flavorful and not too sweet, the crust was burnt in the corner but we still finished the whole slice. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Prices are a little high but everything feels home made so, worth it.
