Best place to get food on campus 😭 but lunch is during my class time. 😭😭😭 I have eaten literally everywhere else on campus and this place is the winner: healthy food (compared to other places), multiple options, and you get to have as much as you need. What's not to love?

“From omelets to tears to tacos, Maria made City Eats unforgettable.”
City Eats, affectionately (and often not-so-affectionately) known as “Shitty Eats” is the dining hall at San Francisco State University, and over time, it became a source of pride for me. Unlike the nickname suggests, at least not anymore, the dining hall is actually very good. I think the real secret is being able to improvise & make some unusual combinations to keep things interesting, it keeps me very healthy too. I eat there almost every day, and while the food itself is consistent in its chaos, the real story is in the people behind the counter.
That’s where I met Maria, who worked the omelet bar in 2023. I practiced my Spanish with her every morning, slowly learning her story. Her husband had passed away the year before, and yet she greeted every student with warmth. Before winter break, Maria gifted little baggies of caramels, nuts, and sweets to her regulars. I wondered if anyone had gotten her something in return. The next morning, I brought her flowers from Trader Joe’s. She cried. I felt bad for making her cry, so I started bringing her flowers every few weeks.
Before leaving City Eats to start her own food truck; Brazuca Grill in SF, Maria’s daughter made a Mother's Day tribute video, and somehow, I ended up in two photos in that montage. City Eats may not be gourmet, but it fed more than just students, it gave me one of the most unexpectedly meaningful connections I’ve had in college.

Students always take this place for granted. All you can eat food at all times of the day with a great variety, Including sandwich bar, pasta, salad bar and entrees/sides. Super friendly staff too. I love city eats.
One of the best parts of college:)

Friendly & professional staff, healthy and tasty food options! ?
Now you can't even take in your backpack.
Food is mostly awful, staff can be okay at best, I'd avoid it all costs unless you're forced into the meal plan.

good food, nice environment
I'm really impressed by the diversity in food and how they have vegan options. I wish they could have more vegan options. It would be nice to see vegan Asian food, vegan Italian food and vegan Filipino food. Recipes can be found in IG by searching #veganrecipes then hopefully that gives you some ideas.
Waited a good 30 minutes to get food and they tell me card machine of theirs dont work and they cant take cash. PATHETIC.
It's definitely not as bad as people say it is. There's ample seating and most of the food looks decent and edible. The staff are very kind and will do their best to help you. There is a pretty good selection of foods, with something for everyone.
The good can be good, but definitely a risk to take. I only went since it’s the meal plan requirement. I wish that they were not so strict in eating with our backpacks since we pay for the food anyways. I wish the food was more diverse and the lines were not as long.
