Had lunch at Cotogna and ordered gelato for dessert. For the main course, we had the Agnolotti del plin and the tortilla with sunshine and rosemary—both were amazing and full of flavor.
The ambience was great and the restaurant felt kid-friendly, which was a plus. However, the service was not satisfactory for the price point. Everything took a long time, from placing the order to receiving the food, and even getting the check took about 10 minutes. The menu felt slightly overpriced considering the level of service.
If you have ample time and don’t mind waiting, the food and atmosphere are excellent—but be prepared for slow service.

Update: The food and service were still great, only wish that we’ve booked an outdoor seating in the sun.
Original: Will come back for lunch in the terrace next time ✨

I stopped by later in the evening tafter work, and it was the perfect way to unwind. The service was welcoming, even so close to closing time. The wood-fired pizza had a crisp crust with smoky flavor, and the house red wine paired beautifully. The dim lighting, quiet music, and relaxed atmosphere made it feel like a hidden gem.

Cotogna has been my go-to neighborhood gem for years, and I still get excited every single time I eat here. Every bite of food is truly heavenly-simple, intentional, and absolutely flawless.
I live across the street, so it’s been a constant in my life, including many date nights with my husband before he passed away. He always loved the food (even if he joked that the portions were small and pricey), but for me that’s part of what I appreciate. I never leave feeling overstuffed, just deeply satisfied.
The atmosphere is warm and intimate and the quality of the food and service is consistently exceptional. Also: and they might have the cutest / coziest outdoor patio in SF.

We dined at Cotogna last Saturday and were truly impressed by every aspect of the experience. From the moment we sat down, the service was attentive and knowledgeable, especially when it came to pairing each dish with the perfect wine.We started with the Parma ham and raw bluefin tuna—both fresh, expertly prepared, and bursting with flavor. The pumpkin & pecorino romano flan was a delightful surprise, offering a unique combination of creamy, savory, and slightly sweet notes. The highlight among the pastas was the Raviolo, a single, large ravioli that was rich and satisfying. For the main course, we shared an enormous Florentine steak, which was perfectly cooked and incredibly tender. Each course was paired beautifully with wine, enhancing the flavors and making the meal feel like a true celebration. It’s impossible to pick a favorite dish, as everything was fabulous in its own right. Cotogna is a restaurant we’ll be excited to return to and recommend to friends for a memorable dining experience.

NOT RECCOMENDED
Management harasses pedestrians trying to walk down the public sidewalk. They illegally block the sidewalk as well. Food is expensive but good. I cannot support a business that isn't a good community partner who treats residents with disdain. This place needs to close and make room for a better civic minded establishment.

Incredible food, unforgettable ambiance. If you can get in you gotta go. No questions. If you can, sit at the bar/counter and watch them cook. You will be happy.

Reservation for a man early dinner outside. Staff was in point as always - prompts clearing of our table, keeping drinks filled, and helpful dish advice. The dishes were rich but not overdone - delicious with distinct flavors.

The server told us our pizza was delayed so we waited 40 minutes for it to come out. We also had ordered 3 pastas and when we asked if they could be brought out while we wait for the pizza, the server told us that Cotogna serves pizza first and then pasta after. It's fine if he forgot to put in the order and can just explain instead of making up a story. The pasta came out 1 hour after ordering. Also we tried to order a salad and he discouraged us from doing so and instead pushed us to order a third pasta.
So we sat for 40 minutes waiting for our pizza and then waited another 20 minutes until the pastas came out. Nice ambiance, but the service is lacking. Also when I looked around at other tables everyone else was eating some sort of salad or green. I’m not sure why he pushed us to order pasta and pizza only when we also ordered 2 heavy appetizers. It was way too much butter and flour so we left feeling bloated and disgusting. Do not take the server’s advice there because they will upsell you to order the most expensive dishes.

Had a fantastic birthday dinner there. Delicious agnolotti del plin and the suppli al telefono really set the stage. We had a tasty glass of barbaresco that was a good value to boot. The real star of the show was the bistecca alla fiorintina! Light seasoning and perfect cooking gave us a large steak that comfortably fed the 2 promised people.

Food that tastes gloriously beyond the sum of its ingredients- causing an autonomic smile response with every bite. Sublimity is thy name!
