It saddens me that 4 days ago Eastern Bakery sold me white rice cakes which were severely dried out and inedible. Each of the 6 pieces that I bought was wrapped in plastic wrap so the condition could not be seen before purchase. As soon as the wrap was opened, dried crumbles fell out. The piece was extremely dry and difficult to hold as it crumbled to the touch. Re-steaming another piece did not help to restore to the proper original moist condition. These pieces cost $3.50 each, the most costly white rice cake which should never have been sold to the public. There were also overaged problems with the steamed black bean paste buns that I bought, but not nearly as bad as the white rice cakes. I sent a complaint with a picture to Eastern Bakery, but they chose to ignore my concerns.

Goods are sold at the door only. You cannot go inside. Known for their mooncakes

I ordered two egg tarts and two wife cakes. The egg tarts were good, but the wife cakes were stale. I was very disappointed that the bakery would sell stale pastries.

Eastern Bakery’s sesame balls are outstanding. Perfectly crisp on the outside, chewy on the inside, and filled with just the right amount of fragrant red bean paste. They’re not overly sweet, which lets the nutty sesame flavor really shine. Always fresh and satisfying. A must-try if you’re stopping by Eastern Bakery.

Eastern Bakery is my favorite stop during my trips to SF Chinatown. I’ve been coming to Eastern Bakery ever since childhood. The BBQ buns, cocktail buns, pastries & cookies - all delicious and fresh made!

My absolute favorite: the Lotus Mooncake is always what I look forward to. This is the best lotus mooncake made around - the filling is made in house!

The set up is a take-away window. A sweet man takes your order, and the ladies in the back gather your order & call you when it’s ready.

SF Chinatown simply wouldn’t be without these cultural institutions like Eastern Bakery.

I am solely reviewing the black bean sesame bun. It is so perfectly crispy, flaky, and delicious. Thank you for this excellent vegan option in Chinatown! And super nice staff too. :) Cash only!

Hey mom and pop ran bakery in the middle of Chinatown. A little hole in the wall. Walk through take out style. Very authentic food and snacks. The mom and pop were very nice. They didn’t really speak much English. We were still able to find vegetarian and vegan options. We tried the vegetarian moon cake. 🥮 mmmm it was served hot. It’s very dense. 1 is more than enough for 2-4 people to share. They take cash and zelle.

Traditional Chinese desserts. Moon cakes have option of no yolk, one yolk and two yolks. A bit sweet for me, but perfect paired with tea or coffee.

My friend and I arrived when this store opened. I had to drop my friend off because I had to drive around to find parking. I Could Not find parking, so I sat in my car in a loading zone. This bakery won't let anyone in the store. It took a half of an hour to get our pork buns! I ate one and the pork doesn't taste fresh. My bean moon cakes were $7.50 they were Never that expensive. We were both disappointed with how the pork buns taste. I will not get pork buns here again. I have bought them here for many years and don't know why they don't taste good!!? 😮‍💨 Very Disappointed!😒

Recently read an opinion article on the sesame balls here so I thought I'd give them a try. The author was right. These are one of the best I've had in SF. When nice and hot, they were perfectly chewy and just melts in your mouth. The red bean was also not too over powering like others. At $3 per balls, cash or zelle only with one man manning the shop.
