Wonderful neighborhood coffee bar, in the center of Protrero Hill serving excellent coffee and pastries. This is a fave when we're visiting family in the city. Service is efficient, and everything is presented with a smile. Very positive energy in the neighborhood!

Farley's Coffee is at least consistent --sporting an attitude since 1991. I don't know how they do it, but they manage to have a regular following here despite their curmudgeonly and dismissive approach to customer service. Not for nothing, but I too keep coming back. Ugh! This weekend, after San Francisco's "Bring Your Own Big Wheel Race" on the Hill, I brought a party of friends and family for $70 of food and drinks (expressos, matcha and teas), only to be refused use of the customer restroom. Why? Because at 4 pm, a full hour before a 5 pm closing, they had cleaned it. So no, they don't want any "customers" to dirty it. They directed us to a nearby bar, despite a ten year old in our party who very much needed to use the customer bathroom. The staff has always been a bit snobby here: that's the one constant at Farley's, and has been for decades. For years, they served only whole milk with any expresso drink, despite the entire coffeehouse world shifting to alternative milks, and if you asked for oat, soy, or almond milk, you'd get rolled eyes and a sigh from your barista. "No, we don't do that here." Now that they do serve alt milks, customers can't use the customer bathroom if a barista decides she doesn't want you to. Even paying customers, pleading parents, and in this case a little guy who really needed the bathroom. The attitude abides, and if you don't like it, well, then you know what you can do.

I came to this place trying to do some work on my computer and hoping to get some good pastry. It was very busy when I got there, and I was gonna wait for the line to die down before going to order some food. As I walked towards the pastry display case to check out the options. The staff said " if you're looking for wifi, we don't have it." Then I said "I just wanted to get some pastry" and she responded with "then you gotta line up." Yikes, the rudeness in the way Karen talked to me. This place has great vibes, just that one staff seemed to assume the worst for her customers, which made me feel sick

When you think of a quintessential SF coffee shop, this is it. Fun, quirky local hangout with a large indoor space oozing with charm.

Came in on a rainy Sunday and had an enjoyable cup of coffee, alongside breakfast bagel sandwiches from next door, and some solid people watching. The seating seemed a little insufficient, but perhaps that was just due to the weather negating outdoor options.

The coffee is good but pricey. the food is VERY mediocre and lacks any seasoning or flavor. Decent ambiance but can't really do work in the coffee shop. They treat their workers relatively poorly even though they hide behind a veneer of fake liberalism.

Pretty much every time I've frequented this stretch of 18th Street, a quick stop into Farley's is included. However, I'd be lying if I said all of those trips were to visit Farley's explicitly. Don't get me wrong - I'm definitely a fan and I think this place is a total gem. It's just that every time I've been here, it's come while waiting for a table at Plow next door. Because what else am I going to do during those 90 minute waits, other than get delicious cup of coffee to keep me awake? Whether it's folks from the neighborhood who have opted to hang out here over a cup of coffee or people like me who are stopping in for a quick caffeine fix while they wait for their table at Plow, there always seems to be a steady stream of customers passing through. Which makes perfect sense, as the vibe here is super warm and welcoming. Of course, it helps that they've got a fair number of tables, including a few for groups, and some outdoor seats as well. Plus, they kindly ask that folks limit their laptop time, which is pretty cool. Of course, their menu is even more appealing! Although their coffee and tea selections are more on the classic side, they've got just about everything you could reasonably ask for - espressos, house drip, iced coffee, teas, and a variety of specialty lattes (matcha, chai, etc.). For me, their MEDIUM ROAST HOUSE COFFEE always hits the spot - full of roasted goodness without any sort of burnt bitterness to ruin the flavors. Their array of pastries and baked goodies always look super tempting as well, particularly their empanadas, coffee cakes, and croissants, but I've yet to try anything myself (you know...Plow and all). Beyond their collection of drinks and pastries to offer, Farley's also has an entire retail angle to offer as well. As you wait in line to order, you can also browse their selection of Farley's merch, coffee beans, and coffee paraphernalia and then peruse their selection of magazines in the far back corner. Not something I've seen at coffee shops, so I'll definitely have to stop and take a look next time instead of just grabbing my coffee and heading back to Plow to stand around for an hour!

Very cute and spacious coffee shop! It's per friendly too. Love their magazines corner - always find lot of cool stuff to read. Their lavender latte is pretty good and I spotted some good looking pastries I'll need to try next time.

Great coffee shop. Completely the authentic San Francisco vibe. Great coffee. You can buy art, shelter in place coffee, and hang out with your friends.

Absolutely love this place! The coffee is top-notch, offering a rich and flavorful experience with every sip. It’s an ideal location for meeting up with friends, thanks to its welcoming and vibrant atmosphere. Even when it’s busy, you can easily snag a table without much wait. The staff is friendly and efficient, adding to the overall positive vibe of the café. Definitely a go-to spot for your coffee fix and social gatherings.

I only bought two coffee bags online - Colombia and Yirgacheffe.. I really wanted to like the beans.. but I was able to tell that they were freshly roasted (judging from the foam and smell), they lacked flavors (I have ordered Yirga from everywhere and have brewed Yirga (at home.. pour-over with all the gears). Disappointed. To be clear, I have not been to their cafe.. just an online customer.

This place is part of the fabric of Potrero Hill - classic spot that’s kept it’s quality up! Don’t miss their cider during the holiday season.
