Amazing, amazing, amazing!!! Perfection. The attention to detail and the warm service was great from the jump. The entire 17 course meal and sake pairing was one of the best meals that we've ever had. I don't say this lightly, it was flawless.

When it comes to high end Japanese dining, there has been an explosion of choices that has coincided with the acceleration of tourism to Japan and the greater knowledge of Japanese cuisine
Omakase or a set chef curated menu most often associated with sushi is by far the most predominant with kaiseki and izakaya less so
For awhile, it seemed like diners were almost price insensitive with new places opening at increasingly higher price points and with minimal background
That’s settled somewhat with some closures, slightly more reservation availability and the economy changes
Friends Only is a wonderful experience from the team behind long-running Akiko’s in San Francisco
The intimate dining room exhibits both elegance and service and the entire meal is a front-row seat to the best their team offers
The menu is in some senses more modern, especially with the dishes prior to the traditional nigiri, but the technique and preparation is stellar
We came for a special occasion and Friends Only fit the bill perfectly 🙏

Overall, the ingredients at this restaurant definitely deserve a 5-star rating. While the prices are steep, I would still consider giving it a 5-star review if the service and dining experience were outstanding. Unfortunately, our visit was marred by racial discrimination, despite the otherwise good service.
The restaurant automatically adds a 20% gratuity, so I expected high standards of service. However, a female server's discriminatory behavior significantly affected our dining experience and spoiled what had started as a delightful meal.
During a birthday celebration, we noticed that she gave special birthday wishes to another table, which made us feel like we were being treated differently. Although the food quality remained the same, the disparity in service was troubling. The most concerning incident occurred when, as we were leaving, she assisted the other table with their coats but made us retrieve our own from the rack. This behavior only reinforced our feelings of her unprofessionalism, disrespect, and racial discrimination (we were the only Asian guests).

I had the best premium uni I have tasted to date, it was so creamy and sweet. The set menu price is definitely on the higher end, but I felt that everything was of high quality. The quality of all the fish was devine. We ended the night with some truffle ice cream; just had the right level of subtleness. Overall we had a great meal.
