We had an excellent experience. The service was wonderful compared to so many other SF fine restaurants - very attentive, helpful and professional. The food was fantastic and no one in my party of six had any negative comments whatsoever. The wine pairings were ideal, even if predictable, and easy crowd pleasing choices. While not inexpensive, a good value for today's SF fine dining possibilities. I'm sorry I waited so long to go to this landmark SF restaurant.

From the moment you walk in you are immersed in a gentle, warm vibe and you are greeted immediately. Service from the moment you sit down until the second you leave the service is on point and diligent. I loved my experience and would love to go back to try something else on the menu. 5/5

Anniversary dinner. Great food. Great service. Great vibe. My only con was that I ate so much - but that one is on me. Worth it. :)

Hands down the best dining experience we've had in San Francisco! Every dish was exceptional, and the hospitality was truly next level. We celebrated our anniversary here, and the team went out of their way to make us feel incredibly special. An unforgettable experience and highly recommend. We can't wait to come back!
Had a fantastic dinner here. Diners, order less than you think you need, because the portions are quite large AND the servers will hand out multiple free bites throughout dinner!
My only complaint was that the risotto was too cluttered. The rice soaked up so much delicious goodness, but there were so many ingredients on the plate, it was impossible to enjoy. I recommend removing the peas and shrimp.
But overall, food was lovely and definitely wanting to come back!

Originally booked for my wife's birthday since we dined here last year and it was phenomenal from the service to the food. We had a last minute addition and they were more than happy to add 4 people to our reservation even though they were completely sold out. This type of service goes above and beyond what a dining experience should be and we were so thankful. This year we ordered 3 courses which was the perfect amount of food and it was all so delicious and the service and ambiance was top notch as it was last year. I was a little curious though that it seemed like the menu was identical to last year if they change it. We got many freebies which of course added to the experience. We will of course be back
It is with regret that I write this review. On 1/16/25 my husband and I celebrated the birthday of a dear friend of 45 years. The couple was our guest; we had the first seating. My appetizer, the squash soup, was excellent. My main course, roasted lobster with potato purée and vegetables, was uniformly lukewarm to warm: not hot, as it should have been. Since it was a special occasion and my friends seemed to be happy, I didn't want to spoil the moment and return my dinner to the kitchen. Consequently, I said nothing to the wait staff. Just before we left I found a young staff member standing near the kitchen and relayed my experience, saying that I wanted to notify the kitchen so that the next seating of clients would have a better experience, and the restaurant would be saved the embarrassment. I received a frosty reception, but was assured that the Manager would be notified. I expected nothing more than an acknowledgment of the situation, and correction for future clients. I have heard nothing from management: quite extraordinary for a restaurant of Gary Danko's reputation. I am a resident of San Francisco and until the pandemic was often a customer at Gary Danko. Our last, recent dinners at the restaurant have been excellent, so I am perplexed by the kitchen's lapse, and in management's lack of courtesy. It pains me to say that I will no longer be returning, nor can I responsibly recommend Gary Danko's restaurant.

What an amazing experience! The food was top notch and the service was impeccable! We will be back!
I went here for dinner and honestly loved the food, portions were good and service was fine.
My 2nd time there, super noisy, hard to hear each other.food was just ok this time around.ordered the set 5 course menu. Nothing was what i expected as far as taste,i only liked the cheese platers but service was great .
First trip to San Fran, have read about Gary Danko for years, if not decades. Glad to finally experience. Service was another level entirely. Really impressive. Wine pairings were nice, would have preferred a tad more descriptions but that's just my preference. Place was packed with clearly the cream of the crop of the business community, we were never made to fell like we were less than. Special place
Everything was extraordinary: the food was absolutely superb (we each had four courses and tasted all of the eight dishes: not one was less than exquisite); the menu choices are enormous and they generously permit you to mix and match your courses from any category (I.e., you could create a four course tasting menu consisting of two appetizers and two desserts !!!! No other restaurant allows you to do that !). We ordered the wine pairing menu and it was fabulous, coached by knowledgeable staff who are able to explain it all. The staff is warm, charming, helpful, and their choreography in serving the meal is pure ballet. Ambience is lovely as well. The only area for improvement is that courses should be served with more time in between each one. Also, we resent the 7% surcharge to cover employee benefits being passed to the customer - management should cover that. Gary Danko is a treasure of a restaurant - and we are foodies from NYC with regular visits to Paris restaurants. CONGRATULATIONS !!!!!! Well done.
