I have eaten at Hard Knox in the past and have always gotten some pretty decent food. I haven't eaten there since the the pandemic. I was seriously craving a shrimp po'boy so I placed an order through Uber Eats. The first issue was, even though Hard Knox is literally 5 minutes away, our food arrived barely warm. My friends were happy with their order (3 piece fried chicken and blackened catfish) I had ordered some extra sides plus my po'boy. One of the sides was wrong. They gave me potato salad instead of mashed potatoes and gravy. I don't know if they have new cooks or what, but the potato salad and the shrimp po'boy did not have remoulade or straight up mayonnaise but some kind of sweet, barbque type sauce on/in them. YUCK! I was ravenous but could barely eat the po'boy due to the cloying, sweet, barbque type sauce it rendered my sandwich inedible. The same sauce was in the potato salad! WTF! My side was also kind of gross. I usually love candied yams/sweet potatoes but this version had some weird, over abundance of some kind of seasoning (I couldn't figure out what it was supposed to be but it overpowered the sweet potatoes and they were not appetizing, at all!). Since my friends were happy with their meals, I am giving 3 1/2 stars. Whoever is preparing the food here, you need to check your recipes. A TRUE po'boy has remoulade or mayonnaise. I was very disappointed and still hungry. Since the order was delivered through Uber Eats, I couldn't directly complain (and the "bots" on UE had a hard time understanding what I was talking about) I probably, unfortunately, won't order another po'boy from Hard Knox. Sigh

When sat down for order, server served corn bread. Soft, fluffy, out of the world. Ordered fried chicken with sides of beans +rice and picked cauliflower. Portions are good, I couldn't finish them. Crispy and spicy chicken, yeah

Don't let the reviews of people that don't know soul food fool you this place is not it! They tried but can't do it like Black folks save your money and go somewhere else it's not good the Mac and cheese is from a box and they don't know how to make southern oxtails!! don't waste your time!

Southern staples (barbecue, fried seafood, blackened options) served with two sides. Stewed Cabbage side, a highlight. Fried Shrimp, on Po Boy Sandwich or as a side (pay per shrimp), excellent.Industrial interior speaking to the pier-side past of Dogpatch is novel.Only comment is the crispy fried batter could be a little less greasy. Complimentary corn bread muffins, delicious with salty butter.

We spent over $400 for horrible food and service. The guy who said he was the manager Got mad because my grandson didn't like the nasty oxtail. Just in case you don't know you're supposed to brace the oxtails before you cook them. They were grey they used the same gravy for everything. It's like they made one big pot of gravy and put it on everything that called for gravy. And let's not talk about that potato salad there's no way that was freshly made potato salad it was horrible... The manager also got mad because we told him we're a group of black people who cook and we're telling you this is not good down home Southern cooking. The best thing about eating at this place was when we were walking out the door. Never ever ever ever again get some black people who know how to cook Southern food in there. Oh and the little manager said that the cook refused to take the food back I've never been to a restaurant that refused to take the food back when the patron didn't like the cooking. They had no desire to make sure that the patron my grandson was satisfied with his meal no desire at all instead he was offended and upset. Trust me there are more one star reviews to follow. Please do yourself a favor and go to Miss Ginnys in Oakland. It's in the hood but it's all so good. We should have stuck with what we knew never again

Being a SanFrancisco native, my palate is a little picky. I went with some friends for dinner before we went to a movie. I wanted to see what all the hype was in general. The food was not bad. The service when they got to your table was good, but if you needed anything else, you really had to hunt them down. I ordered the fried chicken entrée and I requested three thighs which was an option as you could choose any three pieces. My two friends got their food pretty quickly after about five minutes of them into eating their food. I was still waiting they finally brought it out and the order was incorrect. They brought three chicken wings instead so of course they took it back and I waited an additional almost 20 minutes For my food, my friends had already finished. They didn’t really apologize. They did nothing to make up for that last time an awkwardness that was sat at the table. No offer of desserts are 15% off or a coupon for a free piece of chicken next time nothing. But again the food was OK and the good news here is that we get to choose whatever we want to go for fried chicken.

The quality of the food was bad. The macaroni and cheese tasted like it came from a box. The greens could've been cooked longer, the oxtails had gravy but no flavor. My boyfriend ordered the short ribs, same gravy as the oxtails and still no flavor. The candied yams... They skipped the candy part for sure. If you like sweet potato skin on your candied yams, be my guest! We never got our cornbread muffins or the drinks we ordered. Big red flag was a woman who returned her order 4 times because the kitchen kept getting the phone order wrong. Not going back that's for sure!

This is another place that has suddenly gone downhill. Two weeks ago the food was great this week, not so good. I wouldn't say it was bad. Just not up to what I've come to expect for a $25 a plate meal.Update;Whatever you do, don't call in an order for take out. The person that answers the phone has some sort of disability. Twice now my order got fubarred. I ordered the smothered pork chops but got charged for the fried pork chops, plus an extra one. That's not what I got. Also, when I called in the order, I was told it would be ready in ten minutes. I was 15 minutes away. When I arrived, the food still wasn't ready. 20 minutes after I got there, the finally served me my food. But, I didn't catch it till later, they charged me an extra $7.00 for an extra chop that I never got. Things are getting worse all the time.
