Always a wonderful experience, Harris never disappoints. I'm very happy spending my time and money here
We were seated in the library on a Sunday evening. It was a really nice experience, close enough to the live piano/bass music but far enough for lower volumes and easy discussion. Dinner was perfectly executed, cocktail and wine were divine.
We have been going to Harris restaurant since they first opened up and we believe the restaurant has only improved over the years. The service is exceptional, the food is exceptional and I can't find fault with anything about our most recent experience. Thank you for the wonderful evening with members of our extended family.
I have been to many well-known steak houses around North America, including New York and Chicago. Harris' is still my all-time favorite. Consistently excellent food and service in an elegant, yet comfortable atmosphere.
Ann Lee Harris, executive chef Goetz Boje and general manager Joey Buhagias opened Harris' Restaurant in 1984. Under Boje's mentorship, Michael Buhagas, Joey's son, worked his way up from morning cook to Sous Chef to Head Chef in 1991, then part owner after Mrs. Harris passed away in 2003, then sole owner in 2018. Today, Michael, his two sons and daughter-in-law carry on the tradition. Located at 2100 Van Ness Avenue, on Nob Hill, at the corner of Pacific Avenue, this family-owned fine dining steakhouse serves signature dry-aged porterhouse and bone-in New York strip steaks, Maine lobster and prime rib with an award-winning wine list. Open from 5 to 9 Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and 5 to 10 on Friday and Saturday, Harris' Restaurant is a classy, upscale and dressy venue with impeccable service amid a lush atmosphere of dark wood, high ceilings, brass chandeliers and large leather booths. I started with a bowl of onion soup topped with crispy fried onions, a prawn cocktail and a Wedge salad with blue cheese dressing. For my entree, I chose a 12-ounce filet mignon with bearnaise sauce, sauteed button mushrooms, creamed spinach and an Idaho baked potato with butter and sour cream. For dessert, I opted for break pudding with milk bread made in house, chocolate chips and almonds with vanilla ice cream.
The service is always top-notch. For the price, I wish it was still the experience of 20 years ago when it was quieter, less hectic. Instead, the restaurant is crammed & noisy. They've converted the bar into dining so you're in the middle of a stream of traffic from the kitchen & cocktail traffic. Add in a piano & drums. You get the idea. And the wine list is overwhelming & over-priced. Forty pages is too much. Recommend paying the $50 corkage for a bottle of wine you want, and asking to sit in the main dining room.
Overall, I enjoyed my visit. The prime rib was a generous and flavorful cut. I mentioned my preferred doneness to the waitress, who suggested medium, but it came out a bit overcooked for my liking. Still, it was a pleasant experience, and I'll probably return. Next time I'll choose the doneness myself.
I adored this place as soon as we arrived. Just delicious cuisine, excellent drinks, and even better company no fuss. The evening flew by since everyone was gregarious and upbeat. A proper bar should have a sense of community. The next time we visit the area, we will most certainly return. Let's toast!
Great steaks and oysters. Also had a really good Caesar salad. Nice ambiance and great service
My girlfriend and I had the best ribeye we’ve had in last year. Staff was taking care of us. We were able to get a seat in the bar. I eat out a lot as professional sales person we were blown away how good the ribeye was.

Absolutely wonderful. Nothing better in my book than the old established oakroom feel of a steakouse. Love the piano and bass, too.
It's our first time to dine at Harris. I was amazed with the elegance of the place. The maitre d' and staff are courteous and kind. Our server Adam is humble. The service is overwhelmingly excellent!
The best execution. Great food all around. Class act.

We had 4 kinds of steak. Overall the quality of steaks was very good. However, the Japanese A5 wagyu was below what I expected. Very fatty pieces and unevenly cooked in the 4 oz piece we had. Sides were fine. Lobster was not that good. Overall good food but way overpriced and certainly not in the top 3 steakhouses in SF.
