Likely closed. I arrived at 10AM on Friday. Doors are locked and nobody answered the phone.
Wish I had the same service as the others that wrote reviews. My girlfriend and I walked in and waited at least 10 minutes to order, as no one was at the register. Finally a girl came from the back room with a vape in her hand and just approached us without even a hi, waiting for us to order. We ordered and, in silence, she rang us up. After getting our coffee, we asked for a splash of oatmilk and the first words from her mouth was “that will be an extra $1.25”. Ok, no oatmilk. After finishing our coffee I figured I’d be nice and bring up our cups to the register, and instead of the girl being grateful, she was just sitting down behind the register, vape in hand, and says “there’s a dishes bin over there”. The coffee itself tasted like the cheap Bun coffee you get at a diner as well, not worth the money. Will not be coming back.

This place is a community hub. Big thumbs up. The owner is awesome and their dog Dino is super smart. There's a pretty good sized free library, and Dee gave me a book about birth doulas, something I'm interested in. There's a front row view of a collective neighborhood art garden project/installation, where the whimsically extraordinary entrance is framed by an up-cycled metal gate, a creation of the accomplished sculptor Dana Albany.
Hey Neighbor Café puts Portola on the map of places to visit in SF.

Great cafe, loved my time here. Very friendly and welcoming service, cute dogs outside. Had an iced latte and the ube sliced bread was scrumptious - took it to a park and sat - picture perfect.

Went here to try the coffee as we aren’t from the area.
The barista was BEYOND rude, belittling us when asking questions about the drink, then when we would ask questions such as “Where are the lids?” She would roll her eyes and dismiss us then walk out of the cafe. Such terrible service and would not come back.

If you want bad coffee with a side of attitude, come here. I don’t normally leave negative reviews but this one was warranted. Ordered two lattes and they weren’t good sadly, and our presence seemed to inconvenience the lady working….

I came to the store for the first time. The coffee was delicious, and the woman was very kind.
I’ve gone here a couple times and it’s a very lovely space but the service isn’t very friendly, the coffee is fine but standard, and they’re were always out of pastries and stuff

This is the second time that I’ve come here when it says that’s it’s open and up on arrival it’s closed. No sign on the door to say why. I called and no answer.
I love this coffee shop. It is a great meeting place for the community, and the people are so friendly. The coffee is excellent, flavorful, and made with love.
great tasting coffee but bad service
*updated review: Not categorically false i was met with a short attitude while ordering my coffee. Didn’t even have enough time to ask for the type of milk before being told the price, same with the type of syrup. Let alone have time to place an order for toast. I’ve been a Barista for 5 years, I know a thing or two about customer service. For an owner to not take criticism from their patrons is pretty pathetic. Accept your wrongs and move on! The replies to your negative reviews say more about your business than anything i have to say. Good luck. *
Less than satisfactory service. Only provided one ice cube in my coffee. Definitely wouldn’t recommend spending your money here, especially considering the prices.
I’ve been living in the Portola neighborhood for years and THIS is definitely the spot to hit. Coffee is really good, and Dee (the owner/main barista) is so kind and accommodating. Also happens to be in front of an amazing walk-through garden that is such a neighborhood gem.
