Went back today and all I can say is that it’s better than last time! You gotta try the Porchetta nachos - they are “hella” tasty! I had the shrimp po’ boy and loved it. Ask for extra sauce on the side if you want it New Orleans style. Fantastic!We also got two Reuben’s and let Johnny customize them for us. And the chicken sandwich! Ah, a delight.I had doubts about the margarita but that seemed to disappear very quickly.I’d share a picture but we ate it all so fast.
Got the Texas Toast with Swiss cheese added. Delicious, great service and cute patio seating in the back with a ping pong table!

Very bad. The pastrami sandwich was subpar, with little pastrami and very greasy. The small pizza and only one bread with cheese. Very expensive for what they serve in this place.Additionally, when we ate on the patio we had an unexpected visitor... so I would recommend calling pest control...I can't understand how it has that rating... maybe I was very, very unlucky...

One of the best restaurants in the Castro. this Location has vegan options as well. you must check out the hidden patio. I would definitely recommend this location to friends and family.

Best food, great beers, and heated & covered patio!! The owner Johnnie was super nice and the pastrami is made from homemade briskets. Everything was delicious :) will be coming back for sure!!
My wife and I had such a great experience here! The food couldn’t have been more delicious. We shared the Dutch Crunch and waffle fries. They had a lot of fun board games to enjoy while you waited (food was out fast) and such a wonderful, plant-packed atmosphere in the back. It was raining while we were there, but the patio was heated and covered. The guy who helped us couldn’t have been nicer! :) Only regret was not being able to try everything on the menu.

The pastrami sandwiches at Johnnie’s are better than your wildest dreams.The Texas Toast is next level and while it’s hard to choose favorites, this one may be it for me. The peppers, mushrooms, aioli combined with the smokiness and tender meat is just divine. Really love the Texas toast bread with this one too, super easy to eat, and I’m sure this is hard to believe but it’s not messy, everything just works and is super easy to eat. It just disappears, you know?The sourdough pastrami sandwich is a staple, a bit of a classic that is done super well.The shrimp is bomb and an instant addiction.
Came here multiple times.Cute little backyard, it's never crowded.The food is delicious!!!! Absolutely a hidden gem in Castro.

Great food againHaving been here not long post Covid, and just popped across again today whilst in San Jose as we remembered how good it was, can certainly say consistently good is a themeJohnnies fries and burgers / sandwiches are just 11/10And the patio is now covered! Which seems handy given the recent rainfall the last few days

When you come here, make sure you order the smoked pastrami. Absolutely delicious. Make sure you let them know to go easy on the sauce. My sandwich was soaked in their chipotle aïoli sauce. Johnny is the owner of the place. He’s an awesome dude let’s support our local business owners. He remade me the sandwich. He didn’t have to do that. Very nice of them.

This is our spot whenever we are in the Castro. The menu is extensive and we are still working our way through it. Fresh bread on all the sandwiches, great drink selection and friendly service. Start with the Texas Toast and definitely get the pastrami loaded fries nachos. They have a new wine and beer selection too. The heated covered patio makes for a great rainy afternoon too with your doggo.
