Well executed but the poppy seeds maybe weren't for me

Kantine is a nice, somewhat overpriced, brunch place. You order at the counter and then grab a table. The specialty dish for the restaurant is trout, but wasn't in season when we ordered at the time. My friend ordered the hot smoked trout bowl and it was so incredibly small, about the size of your hand for $18! It honestly looked like an appetizer and not an entree. I grabbed one of their sandwiches which was a nice light brunch food. I also tried their Swedish Semle, a great pastry they have in the glass case.
The walk from the bus to Kantine was honestly not super great. I think I saw a stray chihuahua walk in at some point while I was waiting in line.
This restaurant is Scandinavian inspired food, but honestly, I felt like I could get the sandwiches or the bowls quite similar for a better deal somewhere else.

Bad business practices. I inquired about placing a $1000 catering order a couple of weeks ahead. She wouldn’t meet me in the cafe to go over the options - email only.
Three days before, she informs me of a 10% “online surcharge” and a 4% healthy-SF fee. Who charges these things on what is essentially a wholesale order? Too late to inquire elsewhere, I accepted these nonsense add-on fees. So much for price transparency. These practices sure wouldn’t fly in Denmark or France or wherever these folks are from.
On top of that, hours after my friend and I sampled the meatball bites upon pickup, we both had the runs. And I doubt if it was from the yogurt we had for breakfast earlier.

The place looks like a school canteen, outdoor seating is full of dog poops, memu is sticked on door and another sticked to the counter. The items have fancy names to justify high prices. You get very basic food for the price of lunch in a restaurant. Hot chocolate is too diluted. Overpriced small items.
Kid-friendliness: Dog poops everywhere.

Pastries are delicious - it always exceeds my expectations and utilizes very unique and special flavors in a city with tons of bakery options.
Staff is very kind and helpful. It can get crowded so be prepared for a wait.
Unfortunately the latte I had left little to be desired - the milk was steamed too hot and was overstretched; the espresso itself was bitter and didn’t have any discerning flavor.
Overall food and pastries are delicious; I personally would go just for that; could have been an off day for the barista, but I would personally skip the coffee/latte

First time to try Scandinavian brunch and it was impressive. So earthy and healthy. The brunch board offered interesting and healthy dishes I've never tried before.

First time ordered the trout bowl for delivery, and the portion was unbelievably small. The trout was cut into a super small piece and squeezed into a small, soup container where majority of the container were potatoes. For the price that I paid, I feel such a tiny portion size for a seafood item, is super unacceptable.
Very disappointed after announcing a special dinner today. I went to get some food it was 6:30pm and they ran out of the popular dishes I wanted to tried.
Consistently delicious breakfast. I always enjoy the yogurt with seasonal fruit and their specialty touches. Coffee is ok; food and atmosphere are better than the coffee IMO. Friendly and welcoming staff.

Really good Scandinavian / Baltic style breakfast, also really tasty pastries and coffee. I'm happy to finally find a place in SF that makes Tebirkes!

Coffee is consistently the level you would get at some of the best coffee places in Melbourne Australia… highly recommend.

I LOVED kantine. The bakery has to be one of the bests in SF, they have mastered everything on the menu and the flavor profiles are there.
The staff working there is super kind. However, I’ll have to give it just 4 stars because I had to wait almost 30 mins to finally get something I didn’t order. The staff was definitely overloaded. I came back in a less popular time and it was okay.
A must try for me is the morning bun, flaky, sweet and buttery and the Hugo cocktail is one of the best ones in the city. They really do a great job with the elderflower.
They also have a bunch of goodies you can get.
As for the vibe, it’s great to meet with friends or even have a date.I also think they do a great work with the artists and relevant personalities waiting names. It just makes the experience more whole and gives you an opportunity to get to know or revisit someone’s work.
