The Vegan Bento Box is AMAZING!!!! Food got delivered to my place of work. I was blown away by how authentic the food tasted. If I hadn't known I ordered a vegan dish, I wouldn't have been able to tell. I highly recommend trying it out.

I hosted a very special event for my friends and loved ones - all I wanted was for them to have a wonderful time and enjoy great food. Kenichi (the chef) provided just that - he was so accommodating to my bibimbap bar + sushi bar idea, and he executed it perfectly. The quality of the meat and fish were excellent and everything tasted great. He was also very kind to my friends explaining the food and his service was wonderful. Some of my friends ended up taking his information for their future catering needs, because the experience was so good. To top it off, the chef left me a delicious snack plate as he was leaving, because he knows that party hosts don't really get to eat. What a great touch! If you are looking for a simple yet high-quality and delicious catering option, Kawashima is the way to go.

~This place is most definitely not 24hrs. They hung up on me multiple times when I was calling to see if they were open around 2AM on a Saturday early morning. It's a restaurant's responsibility to update their hours whenever they change. Not sure if I will ever return. The 25hr availability was the core selling point for me.~

Several years ago, I ordered over 200 bento for a fundraiser. Everything went perfectly and we received many compliments on the delicious food. I've also purchased bento through other organizations who used Kawashima's Kitchen recently and the food was great!

This is the best Japanese Cuisine in the Bay by far! So delectable with an amazing display of healthy yet unique veggies. Once you had this Chef's amazing bento boxes no one else satisfies the pallet as he does. Kudos to this brilliant chef. Luv the cuisine!

TL;DR = Kawashima's Kitchen serves low quality meat. I do not recommend ordering from here. Disclaimer: I ordered my dish via Forkable, so perhaps Kawashima's Kitchen serves lesser quality dishes through its catering contracts (since you, the customer, can't really do anything about it except complain to Forkable or your employer). I cannot comment on the in-person experience, but this leaves a terrible first impression, and I am unlikely going to order from them again. I ordered the Simmered Sukiyaki Beef (see photos). I did not open my dish until arriving home, and to my dismay, the "beef" was mostly fat. I separated the fat content from the beef to show you the quality of "beef" that this restaurant is serving its customers, and what you would be consuming if you just ate it without looking. I understand that sukiyaki beef should have fat for the flavor, however, this is unacceptable. I'm disappointed that their chef or manager at Kawashima's thinks this is OK to serve, or perhaps they are hoping nobody will notice because the meat was buried under a bed of vegetables. On a side note, the veggies, rice, and gyoza were quite tasty, as it was not too salty, and a balanced flavor of sweet and savory. Hopefully this review will serve as a reminder to Kawashima's Kitchen that we (i.e., customers and employers) are paying good money for the food we order, and it's just disappointing and frustrating when businesses cut corners in quality.

I attended a birthday party a few weeks ago that was catered by Kawashima's Kitchen. I absolutely loved my bento box meal. It was one of the best bento boxes I've ever eaten--everything was sooooo fresh and delicious. I loved getting to try so many different things and was so full by the end! I'm keeping this business in mind when it is time to cater my next party!
Kenichi Kawashima created the BEST bento boxes I have ever eaten. For my 50th birthday, during Omicron, I wanted guests to have a single-serving meal so they could feel safe. And I wanted something special- not your typical chicken teriyaki bento. Many of my guests complimented that this was the best bento they'd ever eaten too! The delicious bento contained California sushi rolls, salmon, karaage chicken, popcorn shrimp, seaweed salad, mixed vegetables including Brussel sprouts and gyoza. He made a compatible vegan option for my vegan friends with tofu and inari. The bento boxes were exquisitely presented with color and an orchid flower. Most of all, Kenichi-San delivered them to my home 30 miles away from SF and was incredibly patient in waiting for the final numbers. He was easy to work with and very responsive by email and phone. I was incredibly impressed with his kindness and generosity!! He noticed my email signature line and went out of his way to watch my documentary film about organ donation. He was so touched he shared the story with his team. I am so grateful to have found Kawashima Kitchen. I will definitely order from Kawashima -San again too!! I am telling all my friends about him too!

Had them cater a small gathering. Sushi was perfect. Grilled fish was done exactly right and the presentation of this dish, as well as the rest, was awesome. There was plenty of food and lots of leftovers. We will definitely use them again for our next San Francisco gathering.

Ordered through Forkable through my workplace for lunch. I ordered a Salmon Teriyaki bento box, no extras. Pros: The quality and portions were perfect! It has a little bit of everything: Salmon Teriyaki, Furikake rice, Inari skin, seaweed, half an egg, two gyozas, Brussel sprouts, two vegetable tempura. Everything was beautifully laid out. I'm not into too much sauce but it was the perfect amount. Cons: None! Overall, super solid and would definitely order outside of work!

We ordered catering for an afternoon Bridal Shower. Perfect mix of dishes for everyone to enjoy: full of flavor with varying levels of spice and deep umami. The petit fours were beautiful and not too sweet. Chef Kenichi was very communicative about menu options for our budget and group, how many trays it would be so I could plan setup accordingly, delivery was on time. The plating and presentation was wonderful with pops of colors from the edible decor. Some examples in photos. Will keep them in mind to try a ramen bar catering in the future.
